Komoto 250 - she died

Hey everyone, so I have a problem and I don't know what's wrong. I was riding my komoto 250. On occasion I've noticed it's been louder at certain times and has kind of not wanted to go fast at all. I though maybe the rear brake was getting stuck. keep in mind that it's only about 4 months old. so i was riding it full out when all of a sudden it just died. Like something blew or something. i'm not a mechanic so if anyone has any ideas let me know! When i try to start it, it sounds like it's trying but it never has any "turn over" sound. you know what i mean?

what do i do?

Raphael

If I reading this right, The starter engages, and makes noise, but it doesn't sound right? i.e. no thump, thump, thump, like normal cranking?

If that describes it, first thing to check would be pull the plug and see if you have some compression. i.e. look inside and make sure piston is moving. For a quick and dirty compressin test, stick thumb over plug hole and hit the starter. The compression should blow you thumb off the hole...

Were there any horrible noises when it died, or just silence?

Unless I'm barking up the wrong tree...

LOL, I ran the battery dead, and kick started for a hour one day before I realized it was on the reserve and had ran empty. Switched over to the reg. tank and vroom.

Check the gas, spark, compression. If all that looks good pull the muffler off (leave the head pipe on!) and try starting it without the muffler.
I've had cars behave similar to what you describe and the muffler collapsed inside and blocked flow enough to keep the engine from running.
Don't take the headpipe off and run the engine, you will trash the exhaust valve.

If there's no spark... it might just be a loose connector that finally come completely undone.

Hey guys, its not the gas... im not that dumb ... but it may be the muffler or spark plug. it made quite a noise when it died, like something just let loose. I can't see anything different with the bike on the outside but i'll check the things you all mentioned, thanks.

Could I ask what size sprockets you are using? I've seen several road bikes on that well known auction site with blown motors, it's plain to see they've all had the big 56 tooth rear sprocket. So they've been used on the road for several thousand miles at 8000rpm, no wonder the motor's given up the ghost. You've given us all the clues, it stopped suddenly with a lot of noise while being ridden at speed, and now won't start. In my experiance that's terminal.

Jonathan.

Is the engine seized? Can you put it in 5th and push it, or do you need to pull the clutch in order to get it to move?

How did you get it home?

Throw some of these answers at us please.
