The SunL SL300 goes 70+ mph hour

I am a bit surprised and amazed. This little 270cc with 4 speed only when 70+ mph with ease on the highway. But I was a bit annoyed by how high strung the motor sounded. So far one of the nuts that held the header pipes has vibrated off. Its replaced and now tighter. This thing only has 300 miles on it. I think it will get better with time. I am going to ride it around town for a few more miles before a long highway trip.

Now I'd like to see it with a different sprocket setup.

If you are going to be dong 70 MPH regularly, you will also need to do inspections regularly

I've removed loose nuts with the throttle before. I just cracked it loose and revved the motor until the nut backed itself off! (up hill)

Check your wheel bearings often as well, they get wicked hot if not lubed

Enjoy that rod-bending thrust, Brother, but keep an eye peeled!

Be safe,
Tigertamer

For some reason I dont have trust in this bike. My Honda I know I can do triple digits and it never misses a beat. On this bike I always listen and check up on the bike regularly. Makes me feel like I got a GM car . I am thinking about doing some sprockets to lower the rpm on the fourth gear. I dont know why this bike only came with 4 gears, but if it had a fifth one I am pretty sure it will not accelerate at all on 5th. I don't know if I could do my 27 miles each way with this bike yet.

Hey it was only a joke. I own a Suburban, but I never really trust it like my china bike. Everytime I drive it something fails on it. After four fuel pumps and many many new parts it has reach 180,000 miles. I have had this thing from when it was brand new and honestly I thought I was never going make it to 100,000. Transmission crapped out at 32,000 and replaced under warranty. Then there is my little Civic that has just surpassed 350,000 miles and still get 36-39 mpg on the highway. Only thing I have every replaced on that Civic is alternator at 190,000 with another junk yard oem one.

I was kidding too, even though my mustang is badd. Pisses everyone off cause I got a huge sticker on the back window that says "Built Ford Tough.....With Chevy Stuff!!!!!!!!!". I also have a toyota 4 wheel drive that will out climb a wildcat. Had a 91 civic that needed valve stem seals at 300k, so I traded even for the same year Pontiac GTA trans am.LOL.

Sounds like my GMC van.

GM made some good vehicles, but it seems alot lately have been junk.

8O With my large posterior (250 lbs) on the 650 Vstar wound right out with a tailwind i'll only get up to 80 mph (130 kph) so that 'lil 270cc ain't doing too bad. Wish Ya-mama built a different gearset for the shaft drive bikes, woulda saved me buying the 1100 and givin' the 650 to my girlfriend

I don't know about the Vstars, but the Viragos had gearsets that were interchangeable.... the drives were all the same but the ratios were different for each engine size.

Rode the bike to work 27 miles

I cant believe that the bike made it to my work place in one piece. I have a 27 mile drive each way. It was at 70 mph pretty much the whole way on the highway. But I noticed that the dump hose at the bottom of the carb dumped some gas when I parked it. Do you guys think it is running too rich?

 I stopped investigating in 2001 when I bought the 1100... but I do know that up to and including 01 there wasn't anything from Ya-mama or aftermarket for the 650. Oh well, got a new bike outta the deal

Drain the float bowl first, open the screw and just let some gas run for a bit. there may be a speck of dirt not letting the needle shut off the fuel once the bowl is full. If that dosn't fix it then check the float level, it might be too high.
