Hey spud,

There is no support on the midpipe. When you slide everything together and tighten it down, it doesn't move at all. I pulled on it pretty hard with both hands and could not get it to move. The nice thing is that heat shield actually helps support the header and midpipe as it extends across both peices. I'll try to weight the stock muffler. It is quite heavy and the FMF is quite light.

Great post madbare, that looks exactly like how I installed mine. I TOLD YOU GUYS IT WAS WORTH IT . Sounds like night and day difference, and not to mention the power increase you will notice. You have to really take the old one off to how restricted it really is.

Madbare, do you plan on re-jetting as well ? Mine was running perfect with the stock setup and 1 clip down on the needle. Then with the new muffler, the engine could actually breath and I suspected it was running slightly lean now. As 1. I pulled the plug and it was a lot whiter than it was before 2. there was a slight back fire when let off mid-full throttle that did not happen before 3. engine felt like it was running slightly hotter/rougher. And after the re-jet, it fixed all those problems and is running better than ever Just thought it is something to consider.

I am as interested in reducing the Zong's weight as I am interested in letting it exhale better. The stock muffler weighs a ton; I am very interested in Steve's report about how much the stock muffler actually weighs.

From where did you guys order the TurbineCore 2 silencers? Desert, how much did the ATV exhaust clamps cost?

It has been posted earlier in the thread, read carefully  I got mine from here -->http://www.bikebandit.com/product/12137 , They also sell those exhaust clamps, and I would consider a jet kit.

jet sizes?

what kinda main jet sizes are u using on the ZS LX200GY with a pod filter? original methinks is 1.31, i went to 1.40. this is with custom header pipe and racing muffler.

is it worth trying 1.45 or 1.52?

pod filter question: how did you make it fit? there s very little space for the carbie, which is held in place by the rubber hose which goes to the airbox. so you d have to keep the airbox and stick the pod filter on a piece of pipe from inside the box. that s how i did it but who got a better setup?

anybody tried aftermarket carbies?

thanks! this is a nice video.

it seems easy on a lifan, but on the zongshen the airbox is part of an element which also holds the battery, so i would have to make up a battery holder. also the short intake pipe between carbie and cylinder is rubber and i m not sure it s strong enough to hold the carbie on its own, ie w/out the duct to the airbox.

so on a ZS a good mod is a bit more involved and that s perhaps why few people would have done it.

OK finally got around weighing the stock muffler, it is 7lbs. Also, got to go our and put a few miles on today. Going to need to jet up some. Near full throttle it is cutting out like it is starving for fuel. Other than that, I cannot believe how hard this thing pulls now. A huge improvement in power.

Thanks for reporting the stock muffler weight, Steve. Wow! Seven pounds is very heavy! How much does the FMF Power Core 2 weigh?

Please report back and let us know the model number and size of the larger jet you select.

You know I didn't weigh the FMF silencer, but I am willing to bet it is probably half of the stock one. For jets, I did a lot of reading on the TW forum and looks like the mikuni slotted head will fit. I ordered a few different sizes to try. I will report back with part numbers and size chosen.

Thank you, Steve! I will soon order my FMF Turbine Core 2 silencer, and install it with my Yamaha XT225 stainless steel exhaust header.

Like I mentioned, I re-jetted the stock from 132 to a 136, my location is at 1000ft and it has been the perfect setup, have almost 400 miles on it now .

Here is a pic of the jet kit I used, it was for a Yamaha raptor 350 and had a big assortment of jets to choose, was a perfect match to the stock, screwed right it. I am sure lots of other Yamaha bike's jets will fit the same though.

OK, a little update on jetting. Got the mikuni jets today from Dennis Kirk. I removed the 132 stock and put in a 135. It seemed a little worse. So I dropped the e-clip one notch and got worse. So swapped the 135 with a 140 and was even worse. I was like hmmm, I guess it wants to be leaner. I wouldn't have figured that adding a pipe would make it run richer. I am at 9000 ft above sea level tho. So I dropped in the 127.5, which was the smallest one I bought and raised the e-clip one notch above stock. Bang, ran almost perfect. I think I could try putting the e-clip in the very top position, but I will run it like this for a while and see how it goes. Maybe it is time for some air-box mods....

The part number from Dennis-Kirk is 17-25-127.5 These are the large slot head mikuni jets, they fit perfectly.

Thank you, Steve. Since I am at 4,400 feet above sea level, I am very interested in your carburetor adjustments. Please do keep me advised of your results.
