i dont know if anyone else has tried it but ive been using the lucas brand motorcycle oil it comes in 10w40 and 20w50 the mechanic at the dealer where i bought my zong reccomended it. it seems to work well. there is a oil additive for cars also and i have seen a big difference in oil pressure when i use it. ive only found it at oreillys . i do think i will look for it in 15w40 next time because so many of you guys mention that weight.

For our purposes on these little bikes oil is oil. What matters is that we change it frequently and don't use any oil that will foul the wet clutch. I use Castrol 10-40 Motorcycle oil from the local auto parts store.

Has ANYONE of us ever heard of a case of a failure that was clearly related to a failure of oil? Probably not.

I have to agree, as long as you keep an eye on it, just about any oil should be fine. I personally wouldn't use bargain basement oils just because they seem to not have the detergent qualities of the better oils.

Going back to Rotella. I like it because it's cheap and has some of the highest resistance to thermal breakdown and mechanical shearing of any oil on the market, plus I have seen NO sign of any sort of buildup inside the engine.

I've read studies that compared the high dollar MC oils to regular oils.. there's no real difference except the price.

For my china bike I agree, oil is oil. I change mine so frequently (break in, then the big leak, then the new counter shaft seal, then the oil temp gauge mod) I just add what ever I have left over from my last oil change (two cars, generator, lawn mower) 1/3 of a bottle of red (Shell, with a Tiger on it?), 1/2 bottle of blue (Chevron) and 1/4 of a bottle of black (cheep PepBoy's house brand). It is all in the 10W 30-40 range, it all works great for these low compression open tolerance engines. My oil temp gauge is only showing 210 after a long hard street ride so I am not worried.

A little bit of ze red oil, a little bit of ze blue, a bit of ze cheep cheep cheep black, Bork! Bork! Bork! An den we mix it all together. . . .

We have to remember, that too thick an oil, will mess with the wet clutch, causing it to hang/drag.

ahhhh but Ive heard synthetic is made from corn not drilled from the ground anyone know more about that ? Not trying to start a arguement with CAL25's comment ......just wanna see what everyone has to say ....thats why i like this sight so much

sorry i created a controversy but lets hash this out to completion? My dad is a chemical engineer and working out the problem should have an answer in a day or two hes actually buying the oil and testing it in a distillation tower with our familys dump packing NUTTER Rings. Patented through Sultzer Chemtech. will have new soon.

If you're getting THAT worked up over someone mixing leftover oil you need to walk away from the keyboard.... maybe take a long walk or go fishing...

Who hasn't scrounged up leftovers? Heck, I used to have a Ford Escort that got whatever I could get my hands on, including USED motoroil and oil from the deep fryers where I worked, gear lube, hydraulic fluid, etc... The car leaked so bad it was a rolling Superfund site, but it didn't die from an oil related failure! (man, that car really STUNK too!)

Here is a thought to ponder. Most of the motors on our china bikes are copies of Jap motors built and designed 30 years or so ago. Not much has changed to these designs since. Cars however, have made many many improvements over the years and it is the car manufactuers that mandate newer and better formulations of oil. Todays oils are much beter than 30 years ago as a result.

I am glad we have so many choices of oil to buy. We all have different reasons for chooseing the oil we use. Sometimes I look at the price and use that to persuade me. Other times I fall for the flashy sales gimick. I dont think my motorcycle cares as long as it is the correct vescosity, Changed often, checked before each ride, and does not cuase the clutch to slip.

The only oil related problems I can think of here were caused by lack of oil.
