Time to check the valves

I've been putting it off for about 1500Km's but its time. I'll be checking the valve clearances next week. I'll post a how-to with pic's shortly thereafter.

Hey, that would be great. I have been hoping someone would post something like that. The owner's manual briefly covers valve adjustment but doesn't give enough detail.

Any progress for this? I'm wanting to do this as well. I'm pretty sure I know how, but a little confidence booster wouldn't hurt. Thanks...

Sorry, not yet. I'm going on a group ride Sept. 30 so I _have_ to have it done by then.

I can't seem to find my owners manual. If anyhone could scan/upload the section from the manual (Lifan LF200GY-xx) where they discuss valve adjustment I would be grateful. I'm pretty sure I know what to do but I've never done a valve adjustment on this motor before.

This is a great way to pass on knowledge... Owners need to take the satisfaction of performing their own maintenance so that they become self sufficient. Especially handy while on the trail... Locktite... blue locktite...

Now I have to decide which bike to get to add to the stable....

I tried to copy the crummy manual I have for adjusting the vavles but it turned out terrible. It is more confusing than anything anyhow. Here's a link that pretty much explains everything. Hope it helps.

Here is a pdf of the "crummy manual" for a GY-5.

If it doesn't work, let me know and I will put the picture out there.

Thanks, exactly what I was looking for. Tomorrow night I'll finally get to it.

I give up.

Checking the valves is damn near impossible. You can't get the valve cover off the 163FML engine without removing the engine. There's just not enough clearance between the valve cover and frame. You might get away with loosening all the engine mount bolts. To make matters worse, the flywheel has about 6 alignment marks. No matter which one I tried I couldn't loosen up the rocker arms. I confirmed I was at TDC via the spark plug hole.

Perhaps one of our more experienced forum mechanics (ob1, tzrider, RPM ,etc...) can give it a whirl.

Grrrrr, where's my Honda. I need to cleanse my mechanical palette.....

It's not quite that bad!

Assuming that my 166 motor is very similar to your 163, I did it this way,
remove fuel tank and exhaust front pipe, slacken the carb to airfilter clip, slacken the drive chain as far as it will go, support the motor on a jack, loosen the bottom mounting bolt, remove the rest, allow the motor to tip forward on the jack. Not the easiest job, but I've done far trickier.
