UNITED MOTORS DTF 200
I placed a bid on a new united motors dtf 200 last week on ebay. It appears that these go for aound $3k retail. The dealer is in austin--which is only a few hours from my home. Well today I received a second chance offer for $1500. Seems like a great deal to me, any ideas or opinions? I have read a lot of good things about united motors.

Welcome Rob,
UM from what I have seen does make a good product and that is a good price for that bike, almost too good... Just make sure to do your homework on who you are buying from and make alot of phone calls also keep in mind how will it be to get parts for... Good luck...

I would contact the seller to insure they were the ones to send the second
chance offer. Way to many scammers out there nowadays. That's definitely a good price. Good luck...

As ImEazy said, check with the seller first before replying to the second chance offer. Scammer are out to separate you from your money.
The UM bikes are very nice. Recently I checked them out at a local dealership. Very nice! They cost a lot more though. |

Be sure of the year... There is a big difference in quality from 2004 and later... I have seen a 2004 and a 2005. Lots of quality improvements in the 2005. Get a new one if possible.

I'd listen to Blimpman. I think that up till '06 (Bruce, correct me on this), they used the "old" GY-based bikes. It looked like many of the common GY200's that we all ride, but had some higher quality built in. It wasn't until late '06 that the new enduro/dirt beauties that they show on their site became available. They do not look like any of the GY's we have. The MSRP listed on the dirt only DTF-200 is $2500, so if they are selling them cheap to move them, that might be the case? I think the same dealer is also on Cycletrader, too.
BTW, if you go to the Central/South American UM sites, they show some bikes we don't have (we aren't missing anything, they are just some cheaper product), and the older GY-based model is available (at least on the Costa Rican UM site) for reference.
