What do I tell the insurance company my new Viva VX200SX is? Who makes it Lifan? ChongJiang? That's a joke by the way? Maybe the MSO will state the manufacturer.

I need to get a quote.

My insurance is with AllState, and I pay $324 a year ($27 per month), and that is full coverage with medical. I cant remember how much the medical covers, but it was several thousand. Knock on wood, but we havent had any tickets, wrecks, etc... to make our insurance go up.

Pauli,
That's a good find. I thought Progressive was the lowest around. I'll have to reconsider when it's time to renew.

We used progressive and they did the research on our vivas. They are insured as vivas here in Hawaii, no problem. We pay $49 a year for each bike.

That's it, keep rubbin' it in.

The real kicker is that up here Medical expenses are covered by the government (read: not the insurance companies). In the event of an accident they don't have to pay for the hospital stay for either party.

We're getting gouged big time.

I paid $75 with Progressive. That is their minimum in Indiana.
They were able to add coverage on to it for that amount to bring the rate up to $75!

I only pay $75 for a 650.

my basic coverage from ICBC (BC's govt insurance company that makes huge profits, and is the only choice for basic), was around 370, including my new plate fee and such.

I had Progressive last year. Or at least I thought I did. A few months ago I was going through some old paperwork and found a letter from Progressive cancelling my insurance about a month after I had signed up. They claimed that my bike wasn't a valid 'vehicle' or something like that. Unknowingly, I rode all summer without insurance.

So, let's hope I have better luck this year.

Hey Penguini--sounds like you had great luck since you didn't have a real-life opportunity to discover you didn't have insurance!

Did they refund your premium? Or were they billing you monthly?

I've had a couple friends who had Progressive for their cars, different states, same story...Progressive tried to convince them to go to certain repair shops who would use 'rebuilt' parts. In one case, the recommended shop was 70 miles away. My friend mentioned 'fraud' and that ended the problem. I guess it wouldn't matter so much with these bikes; I'm not insuring the bike itself, just the poor guy I happen to run into...and I probably won't really care about his situation if that's the case. :?
