*#&% Vibrations!

My GY 5 is vibrating HORRIBLY when I give'er throttle (around 4k and up). I hear the engine chatter and that doesn't bother me but the vibrating is driving me crazy. The footpegs vibrate so bad when I riding it my feet "buzz". I don't think this is normal. Removed the side panels, seat, chain guard (that's staying off), passenger footpegs (they really shake in the certain RPM range) and skid plate. I see some heavy metal on metal rubbing in the skid plate on the engine. I thought once I saw that it was going to be most of the problem. NOPE! Still lots of vibrating noise coming from around the carb/engine area (so it sounds).

I'm going to keep hunting!

Anyone have any tips? Anyone tracked down their nasty vibrations yet?

I'm pretty good and finding squeaks and rattles and fixing them in cars but this has so much vibration I don't think I can get them all.
Sound like lots of parts (metal on metal, plastic on metal) hitting each other. I think it needs lots of rubber gromets and such to fix this.

If I am cruising along and let off the throttle I can hear all the shaking and cr ap over the exhaust. VERY annoying! Embarrassing when you're trying to represent the underdog on the streets and trails and make LIFAN a name people know (for good reasons).

It sounds silly but is your license plate vibrating against the mount?

Mine did that and I swore it was coming from the engine area while riding.

I don't have an official plate yet but that's what I'm doing... going over the whole thing trying to track this stuff down. I'll be chopping off the mount and mounting the tag directly. Some of the rattling was from the passenger pegs slapping on the mount, some was from the rear fender slapping on the silver frame. Dab of Shoe Goo took care of that. It'll get firm and make a nice cushion between them.
If I have the kickstand down and give it throttle the whole bike will vibrate backwards - everytime. That's not right. :x

Better than vibrating forward - and off the kickstand... :P

Are the engine mounting bolts tight?
Are the rubber pieces that the engine parially sits on in place correctly?

Just the screen name gives me prurient thoughts...

But anyways, taking a long screwdriver and holding the handle end firmly in one ear, and placing the tip at various points can allow you to pinpoint the source of the vibration.

dlunt - As far as I can tell so far they are all tight and the rubber nubbers are hitting in the appropriate spots (other than the engine hitting a couple spots on the skidplate).

ambassador - I haven't locktited everything yet but I keep chipping away at it BUT I haven't found any loose screws/bolts yet either while trying to diagnose this nasty shakin'.

Theotherride - NICE! If this shaking keeps up I'll never have a problem with my prostate.

ob1 - Excellent tip! I'll give it a try.

Is there a step by step on here on how to work on/adjust/balance the lifters? I'll have to look tonight when I have more time.
Later
