That tank looks really good Jim.

So does that old C-10; is it yours?

Thanks

Yes, it's a 72 GMC. It basically only needs paint. There is pretty much no rust on it anywhere. When I originally got it, the front of the frame was bent down slightly, but we straightened that and it just needs a bit of work to go back together. We removed the extra gas door that was cut into the side of the box also. It's going to end up being 2 tone with the white down the middle and the moldings. I don't have any really good pictures, but here it is before we took it apart...

That is a very pretty fuel tank, Jim. The bike is looking great; thank you for the update!

It does have a few light scratches and small chips here and there, but for a 37 year old tank I think it's in pretty good shape, which is why I decided to leave it with it's original paint and just give it a good waxing... It will get some more before it's done of course, as well, the underside of the tank where it cradles the frame will need a bit of sanding and paint, but it is not visible.

The grab bar I ordered on eBay was sent back to the seller. USPS says it was undeliverable. I sent it to the same address I've used for years though. Apparently, according to the guy at the shipping place, if it has a mailbox or unit number in the address it has to go after the street address, or USPS can't figure it out? Really? If this is the case it would have been nice of the guy at the mailbox center to have mentioned it in the past one of the many times items have been shipped there. I guess USPS is going to charge shipping again so I will probably have to spend an extra $10 on the item, but so be it I guess... Would have been nice to know before hand though. I'm sure someone in the Lynden post office could have said hmm a 3 digit number looks like a unit number since the street number should have 4 digits, like the 4 digits right here. Oh well :? I guess it will be another week or so.

Example of where I sent it:

Name
#123 - 3345 Front Rd.
City, State, ZIP

Where #123 is the unit/mailbox number, and 3345 is the street address.

Is that clearly wrong in the USA? If so, I wonder why no one who has shipped me items there has mentioned it or changed the formatting of the address?

Usually it would be:

Name
3345 Front Rd. Suite 123
City, State, ZIP

Now when I ship I just use whatever address is in paypal unless a buyer ask me to use another one.

Allen is correct. It is customary to place the street address first, then the suite number, et cetera. However, the people at the United States Postal Service should have been smart enough to deliver your package, even though the address format was slightly different. I know this is true, because I was employed as a U.S.P.S. clerk for about 2 1/2 years. We frequently received mail with errors in the address; if we could figure out the destination, we delivered the mail.

I am going to be discrete, because I don't want to insult any U.S. postal workers who either belong to these forums, or visit them. However, based upon my personal experience working there, I know the United States Postal Service is a typical government operation.

The real kicker is, the Lynden USPS post office is just a block or so down the street from the "mailbox", http://www.themailboxlynden.com/ .

Good to know, thanks for confirming guys...

When I write my address here in Canada I always write 123 - 1234 street st. It's always worked here, sometimes I include the # sign before the 123, but not always. I also have, like I said always written it like that in the past for the mailbox but I guess they didn't feel like delivering it... I've changed my primary ebay shipping address to reflect the new guidelines. I haven't heard back from the seller yet though if he will reship it with the "corrected" formatting. If he wants more money I will pay, because it is an error on my part, but I just haven't heard back yet.

In other news, I got a bulb that should work for the high beam indicator. I also am in the process of tracking down better signal lights. I have found reproduction signal light stocks on eBay that they say are a direct replacement for the front, however the ones pictured are too short so I'm waiting for confirmation on that. The rear ones are a little different since they mount to the grab bar. I also wrote down the number off of the ignition switch and am going to head to the locksmith tomorrow to try and get a key made up.

I just noticed that the grab bar had a tracking number associated with it... When entered it gives me this info:

Your item was returned to the sender on May 25, 2010 because the addressee moved and left no forwarding address.

That seems to look like a screw up on the post office's part and not the address used on the label?

Looking at a map, Front St in Lynden Wa is only about a mile long, and I'm sure they go to the mailbox on a regular basis. Personally I think USPS should credit the sender and resend it for free but I bet there is not much chance of that happening.

Indeed, the post office did "screw up," and they certainly should credit the sender. However, as I mentioned before, the U.S.P.S. is a government operation, so it's impossible to predict how they will respond.

I suggest you politely contact both the seller, and the local postmaster, and inform them that a mistake was made. If the local postmaster is not helpful, I suggest you contact his boss, the postmaster at the local Sectional Center Facility (SCF). The SCF for Lynden is the post office at 98201, North Everett, WA.

The seller resent it, he said he'd just eat the cost but I sent him another payment to cover it. I tried talking to USPS through the 1-800 number, but it's not worth the long distance charge to call the local number for the local post office... It's a bit irritating but I'll remember to try and format it better in the future.

I went and got a key made today. He made me 1 and said to try it out, if it works then come back and he'll make the spare. It's $16 for the 2 and I only needed to wait for about 2 minutes. That was at Abby locksmith for anyone in the area needing a good locksmith :P I also picked up 3ft of gas line at Lordco so I should be able to replace it all.
