New ccm cxr 230

Hi all, i have just bought a ccm cxr 230 in the UK. 09 plate with 600 miles on it.

I was wondering if anyone has any information on it at all?

I see it has variants in different parts of the world, i think it is exactly the same as a loncin lx250py.

Does anybody know what other bikes, chinese or japanese that parts are interchangeable for them? i see the lifan 200gy looks similar to it? Are they the same too?

Only asking as i would like a workshop manual for it and im after some mods like an aftermarket exhaust and air filters etc for it as i cant find much info on it

Any help would be much appreciated

thnks

Welcome!

I've never heard of that particular bike, but I'm sure that we can identify the parts. Please show us some pics.

I found a stock photo:

from here: http://www.motorcyclenews.com/MCN/sp...cxr230-xtr250/

Here is their website. Seems like they make some pretty decent stuff!

I don't think I'd change a single thing! That's a sharp looking supermoto.

The engine is all Honda based, but sort of a hybrid in my view. I believe the top end to be OHC CRF230 based, while the bottom end has the electric start of an NX250. I think that's a good combo.

Stuff like bars, mirrors, grips, tires, chain, levers, etc will be generic, and an OD measurement of the exhaust pipe will tell you if something like an FMF TC2 will slip on.

Did you have something specific in mind?

I believe that the motor is the same as my old Hongdou 230, (the CCM also comes with the OHV engine). I looked into using CRF 230 parts to repair my gearbox, on the surface they look the same but on deeper inspection there are subtle differences. I believe that a complete gearbox would fit but individual gears won't. For the record apart from the clutch case gasket CRF 230 gaskets fit the 230cc OHC motor. If you have a look in the archives there are several posts on the small CCM's.

Jonathan.

I've seen the valve go both directions, so it's a puzzle if there are no markings.

One way is to remove the fuel tap from the tank. You'll note that the assembly has two tubes attached to it; one long and one short. The long tube is the main, and once fuel gets below that level, only the short tube will draw fuel. Turn the valve one direction, put a clean piece of tubing on the barb and gently blow through it. You'll be able to tell which tube the air is exiting from, and you'll be able to mark the position.

Using that method, you'll be able to determine which way main and reserve are, with off in the middle. I've engraved a small arrow on the tap handle to remind me.

BTW, while you have the valve out, you can see if there's a sediment bowl on the bottom that can be removed for cleaning.

The CCM 230 is indeed powered by the Loncin engine - 166FML if I recall correctly.

It may be 229cc or more likely 223cc which is what these engines commonly are.

CCM or Clews Competition Motorcycles to give their full title make nice quality handbuilt bikes in Bolton in the UK, using Suzuki DRZ 400 engines and formerly Rotax units. The 230 is a collaboration with Loncin who supply the engines - the rest is CCM stuff to the best of my knowledge.

Nice bikes which benefit from superior build quality generally over Chinese models but bear an uncanny resemblence underneath.

I searched for one of these myself before I bought my Vixen VX250.

Someone got one of the CCM 604 to the US--

http://phoenix.craigslist.org/nph/mcy/2834681750.html

If I had the time, I would look at it.

The CCM here is most definitely the Loncin-based bike; the XTR 250 was the Shuopu Science/Puzey (Puzey might not have been involved at the time--they parted ways with Shuopu and not on particularly good terms)/ Pitster Pro bike.

Andy, was it you who saw one of the XTR 250s at the CCM dealer, or Jonathan (CZowner)?
