Shifting problems.

Ok so a new problem arose today on my hisun.
It has a digital readout of the gear you are in but it never stays lit, and sometimes the bike wont go back to first.

Also when in neutral trying to push the bike up it occasionally locks up. And the bike needs to be pushed back then forward again or be shifted to first back to neutral sometimes.

any ideas? is the bike done?

Have you heard of this problem before? Or is this just a guess. I will try it.

Yes, this is a common problem. Because of the transmission design, motorcycles don't like to be shifted while stationary. If you add other problems, such as FastDoc mentioned, stationary and dynamic shifting become more difficult.

Ok thanks for the help guys.
When you say oil needs to be changed, you mean the normal engine oil? or is there something else?
Also how do I lubricate the clutch cable?

Also is adjusting the clutch something I can do myself? Or is it something a cycle shop could do without knowing anything about this particular bike?

Yes, the engine oil, since it also lubricates the transmission gears and the clutch. That's where the term "unit motor" comes from. Several of us use 15W40 Rotella, but you can also use a four stroke-specific motor oil that is suitable for a wet clutch. Don't use car engine oil.

This is a good cable luber: Motion Pro Cable Luber . I use it with Maxima Chain Wax, which is excellent for cables and chains.

I am going to take the bike to try and get it inspected today. I will see if they can do an oil change as well. And maybe they lubricate clutch cables but who knows.

Also any ideas why the led panel that shows what gear I am in doesn't stay lit? I mean the headlights and everything else still work.

The LED gear indicator is on a different circut.

My thought is that there is a loose plug somewhere.

It is usually located close to the left (stator) side engine cover.

It typically has about 6 small wires going in and out of it.

There may also be a loose connection by the indicator itself.

This is a good website for you to read and study to learn the basics of motorcycle diagnosis and repair. You WILL need this knowledge owning as Chinabike.

Scientists don't guess, and neither should mechanics.
