Recent flight to the San Juan Islands.

Mt Baker from over the Puget Sound.

When the weather is good, there is no palce I have been more beautiful than Washington State. I know I pine away for California, but weekends like this remind me how BLESSED I am to live here, and have a plane and the means to enjoy it, and good friends to enjoy it with.

A Travel Air Biplane from the 1920's flies over Orcas Island where we were camping.

A beach on Orcas Island close to the campground. I have never seen a beach with so many shells. Linda collected handfuls.

The airport had these classic Schwinns to ride around the island on. I though Cheesy in particular would appreciate this picture.

These pics were taken right off the end of the runway on Orcas Island. The mountains of Vancouver Island, and Mt. Baker.

Maule bushplanes on the grass at Point Roberts.

We had a little Fly-In. Great people and excellent pilots. The Maule Forum, similar to this one, has wonderful people on it.

Our group.

Linda and I with my plane.

Mt Rainier and flying over the Washington Cascade Mountains. Brother Spud climbed this mountain, the second highest in the lower 48. Mt Whitlney is only higher by a few feet, and I'm sure has MUCH less of a vertical climb to summit. Good on you Spud!

Thanks for posting the beautiful photographs, Doc. I love grass airstrips.

I was blessed to summit Mount Baker. However, I hung up my crampons after Mount Rainier tried to kill me. 8O

Doc, your views of Mt. Baker are from the wrong side. We're blessed to have an excellent view of Baker from most places in Abbotsford. We've driven up there in the summer a few times, so the kids could play in the snow.

Thanks for the amazing pics! It looks like Linda was having a great time.

Thanks so much for the beautiful photos. I was born and raised near Seattle, Wa. I'll soon be 60 years old. Some of my earliest memories are going camping with my family on Orcas and San Juan islands. I starting riding motorcycles at 8. Some years ago we got my wife a Honda Metro, and me a Honda Ruckus scooter. We would truck them up to Anacortes from Puyallup, unload at the ferry dock, cut to the front of the line (motorcyclists/scooter riders, pedestrians, and bicylists get to cut to the front and load first!!), and take then boat, usually to Orcas, but also to San Juan Island. On Orcas, we'd stay at the Orcas Hotel as our base (across the street from the ferry dock), and tool all over the island and have a great time.
We moved to Hawaii recently. As our last hurrah in Washington State, we rode my XL883 Sportster, and her SYM HD200 scooter from Puyallup, to Port Townsend, where we caught a ferry to Whidbey Island. Then rode to Anacortes and took the boat to Orcas. Spend a few days enjoying Orcas, as always. On the return trip, we took the boat to Anacortes, rode to the southern part of Whidbey, took the ferry to Port Townsend. Rode to South Worth and took a ferry to the northern tip of Vashon Island. Then rode to the southern tip of Vashon where we took the ferry to Tacoma, and rode home. Puget Sound is a beautiful place, and a ferry boat is a cool way to see some of it (since I don't have a pilot's license!).
We now live in Keaau, on the Big Island of Hawaii.

I have been to 49 states on a motorcycle. I have never been to hawaii, but it is on my 'bucket list'.

I have always said that on a sunny day, no where in the country is more beautiful than Western washington. OK, maybe Alaska... ;-)

A scooter or a small motorcycle would be a GREAT way to see the San Juans. I'd like to do it on my 1972 CB175.
