I hate to say it, but that really is a bad idea. With rubber inserted into the mount it might/probably will allow the bars to move. Most likely it'll happen at the worst possible time. A better choice is to make/buy bar end weights to dampen the vibes.

Freak,
Not a good idea, the rubber will break down fast under that load... May want to look into some bar ends...

What kind of bike do you have? How bad are the vibrations? Maybe there is a problem causing it? My handle bars don't vibrate too bad, unless I've got a busted bolt somewhere... I did put on some nicer handgrips though.

I've never really paid much attention to the handlebars on all my road cruisers, but off road riding...Everytime I go through a ditch, gully whatever, I think damn....I would suck if the handle bars folded right about now.

I agree 100%. Ditch the rubber mounting. If anything, drive a screw through the cap into the bars to lock 'em. ( JUST KIDDIN )

solid aluminum bars

30 years ago when I was in high school and raced hare scrambles I put solid bars on my mr175 honda. Just wondering if anyone still makes them and if it would take care of the vibration issue. They were more durable than the hollow handle bars. Took a lot of spills and never bent.
