I'm Tired

I need to go back to work to get some rest.

Visited the kids in Maine for Thanksgiving. 2400 miles driven in 52 hours, 2700 total. Original plan was to leave for Maine on the 22nd but Jake's Mom took a turn for the worse and passed away on the 21st, less than hour after we visited her. Her passing wasn't unexpected, but that didn't make it any easier. We left after her funeral on the the 26th.

We also would be following in the footsteps of winter storm Cato, but managed to stay behind it most of the way there. We caught up to Cato east of Binghampton, NY, about 1am Thursday morning, and decided to crash at a rest stop for a few hours. That was enough for the roads to get taken care of. Until east of Bennington, VT. From there to Wilton, NH it was 4wd and 10-30 mph. We rolled into the kids place at 1:30pm, exhausted.

Any running around was done in our truck as it is basically a Suburban with the back roof cut off, meaning room for everyone. We made the mistake of driving down to Freeport, ME on Black Friday to go to the L. L. Bean Outlet. I walked in, turned around, walked out. Way too many people for my taste. Went to the Bean flagship store and it was almost pleasant being there.

We went to Rockland, ME for their Festival of Lights Parade and Christmas Tree Lighting. Their Christmas tree is made of lobster traps and topped with a lighted inflated lobster. Pretty neat.

Headed back Monday morning after visiting the granddaughters' school. Got back home 11am yesterday morning. The truck averaged 18.5 mpg, but it was as tired as I was when we finally pulled into the driveway, 50 miles short of 30K.

I made the mistake of having a second slice of Garlic Bread Pizza Sunday evening. This wasn't tomato sauce and cheese on a piece of garlic bread, but a pizza with loads of garlic with a garlic laced crust. Let's just say that I even embarrassed the dog on the drive home.

Some pics.

Typical road scene.

Kids, after completing a 5K Turkey Trot Friday morning. It was 10F.

Rocklands' Christmas Tree

Da Lobster.

My favorite granddaughter.

Puffins on parade.

Nice Chevy.

Wash me.

Way too many miles in bad weather for my liking, but I understand family holidays. It's good that you were there for the funeral; something quite similar happened to me last month when I visited Edmonton.

Nice Chev in the parade.

As always, thanks for posting the great photos, Cheesy.

I don't like driving in the winter.

Southern Tier Expressway/I-86. I'm only on 90 between exits 24 and 25 before heading through Troy.

We get winter almost 5 months out of the year so I'm used to it. Also helps that all my vehicles, save for the two wheeled ones, are 4wd or AWD.

People around here drive like idiots, and poor traction doesn't help matters. 4WD is great, but it doesn't help you stop any faster.
