Qlink XF200 Guage Cluster Took A Dump

Hey everyone,

I was riding my XF200 home last night and glanced at my speedometer to see I was going 0mph . Obviously I need a new speedo unit, but the thing is when mine was working it wasn't really accurate. On top of that, the tach was just as inaccurate.

Instead of purchasing the same unit to replace this, are there any aftermarket options that I can rig up to my bike? The simpler option would be to get a bicycle speedometer and digital tach, but most bicycle speedometers measure up to 35mph max, and the digital tachs aren't backlit which would be an issue for night riding.

I've been looking at this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/151424004280 and sent the seller a message asking what the max speed is.

Is the original speedo cable drive or electronic? The Schwinn and Bell bike speedos I use will read up to 99.9 mph.

Sorry forgot to include that info, the original speedo is cable drive which sucks because I cant just purchase an aftermarket one and calibrate it for my bike. I'll look into the Schwinn and Bell speedos to see what they have available.

I really like the Trail Tech Vapor computer I installed on my Honda CRF250X.

I completely forgot that the Vapor measures MPH! This is EXACTLY what I was looking for, thank you very much for posting this SpudRider. I'll check around for a good deal and get it expedited to my doorstep.

Your speedo probably didn't break, your cable did. It's a common problem for the Qlinks. A Suzuki DR200 one will replace it. As to the speedo being off, I had the same problem. We determined here that my bike (since sold) had the XP drive rather than the XF. I bought a Schwin bicycle speedometer and found out what my true speed was. It was a pretty simple conversion after that.

I saw some old threads saying the same thing and was going to take it off tomorrow to see if that was the issue, however my tach is also not accurate. When idling the tach says my bike is running 2.5k rpm and the bike is nowhere near that, then when winding the bike out it reads 5k rpm when I know it is much higher. I was going to just get a cheap tach and bike speedo to take care of it, but would much rather replace my entire dash setup with something a little more up to date.

Dash Kit: http://www.ebay.com/itm/281501260306
Mount: http://www.ebay.com/itm/111482129784

That's what I'm thinking of ordering, any opinions on the dash kit?

I searched around, and found one ebay dealer from the UK who state that their speedo goes up to 99 MPH

There was a dealer with the same speedo from the US who did not claim any top speed, but it was less cost and free shipping. I bought one of them:

I'm sure David is correct. The speedometer cable on this bike is notorious for failures. It's the only weak component on the motorcycle.

You can undoubtedly save some money by purchasing a bike speedometer, and a Tiny Tach, or equivalent.

If you get a bike speedometer, make sure it is wired. The wireless units have problems because of the motorcycle's spark plug, et cetera.

If you decide to get a Trail Tech computer, you can save a lot of money by omitting the dashboard and mount. I fabricated my own mount, as detailed in the thread I mentioned earlier.

So I took the cable off and yes, it was broken inside the housing. Now I just need to decide whether to replace it, buy a bike speedo and digital tach, or remove everything and get a Vapor. I am leaning towards the Vapor because it will be the most accurate and clean looking replacement in my opinion, plus it has a temp sensor which always comes in handy

I debated this myself and decided I didn't want to pay $150 (Vapor + dash to retain indicators). I ended up taking the speedo apart, scanned the face, and created a new one with the correct locations. RPM didn't matter to me.

I've been thinking the same thing. I just found someone selling a mint condition 2010 KTM 690 Enduro R for $1,700. I'm just going to fix the stock speedo and sell this bike as soon as possible to get the money for the KTM
