New bike not running right

Just got a new Lifan 200gy and put it together. Only problem is that I can't get it to idle right and it seems to be misfiring. It's making a popping noise from the exhaust.

Any advise on what to check or adjust?

I'm too new to advise anyone on anything, and I'm sure someone will come along and give you good advise, but since no one has replied yet, I'll step up and look stupid. :?

If it were me, when my bike was new, I'd suspect the gas purity. The tank sometimes gets dirt in it from shipping. I'd think about dumping the gas and using a flashlight to inspect the tank. Since the bike has been started, that dirt might be in the carb, it too might need cleaning.

But then again my best advice to you, is not to listen to me. I just feel bad for ya bro. Check stuff and do no harm till someone brilliant comes along and types out what the problem is.

I may be set too lean. What is you elevation? You probably will need to lower the carb needle and adjust the mixture screw.

Does it improve with the choke on? Good sign that it is too lean.

Also check the sparkplug for a proper gap and you may want to replace it with an NGK plug.

Cheyenne,
Alot of the GY's have some leftover plastic shavings in the tank from production, you may want to drain your tank and see if anything is floating in there?? Carb next?? Welcome to the site and ask away...

I blew the tank out with the air compressor first and then installed a fuel filter during prep.

I haven't seen any shavings or dirt in the filter yet.

Follow the DS prep guide in the Tech section of the website nip most of these little problems in the bud. We've all had them and they're documented there.

8O I wasn't too far off for a new 2 rider.

Kato's suggestion, " Does it improve with the choke on? Good sign that it is too lean." is a great quick test. If it gets worse, then you are too rich. If it gets better you are too lean.

Hope you are up and running soon, good luck
