Chain or sprocket whine on Coolster 125cc

HI,

Bought my son a Coolster 125cc atv for christmas but it has a whine and clicking coming from what I believe to be around the front sprocket area.. I checked the chain tension and seems to be ok. Any thoughts? Bike is new was put together by dealer. Chain does not pop off and seems to run smoothly other than the sound its making.

I recommend that you change the oil before riding it any further. Who knows if the dealer bothered.

Does it only happen when moving? (The chain moving?) or even in N?
Search some of the other posts.. but check the basics.. Make sure the axle is square with the engine.. sometimes the side opposite the chain get adjusted further back than the other side. It causes the chain to run crooked, and sometimes make a noise on the sprockets. Also look at the locations of the sprockets.. I think the sprocket on the engine of one of ours is too close to the engine, and the sprockets are not lined up.

It only happens when its moving, its not engine noise, I haven't tried in Neutral that i remember but will.. I'll check sprockets and alignment and update everyone.

Thanks.

looks like everything is square and yes it makes the noise while moving with engine off.. its either front sprocket, bearings or something like that..

That's got every indication that the chain is way too tight, but you said that's been checked. Can you pull the countershaft over and look to see if something isn't correct or any possible foreign objects?
