Good thing it was only one! I discovered the same on my Ducati and the other bolt was on it's way, the 'what ifs' were scary.

That set up looks just like my TT250. I think all that stuff could be trimmed down pretty easily setting the caliper closer to the swingarm shaving off some unsprung mass. It'll also reduce lifting force potentially increasing traction under braking.

Thumbs Up

not just chinabikes either! my brand new big buck triumph thunderbird LT cruiser lost a front caliper bolt and second one was nearly backed out by the time I got home from the dealer, if it had come loose and snagged a front spoke at highway speed in traffic!
similarly lost a front one on a hawk at about 100 miles :(

Looks familiar....strange feeling when I hit the rear brake and it felt like I was accelerating instead of slowing...

Why did none of you guys do the lock tite thing when you first assembled the bike ? It's not like it is mentioned in every single "got a new bike how do I put it together and change the fish oil and locktite all the bolts you can " threads .

Doesn't just go for Motorcycles... Happened to a few cars I have owned over the years too... years ago it happened to a brand new 05 Honda Civic and also a new 09 Subaru Impreza... both cars had under 8,000 miles on them and there was no need for me to mess with the brake system before the "oh sh*" moment happened... both cars decided it wanted to lose random Brake Caliper bolts while braking hard from 65 - 70+ mph (during an emergency stop situation too!)... I press hard on the brake pedal... I almost instantly hear "clangs and bangs" coming from one of the wheel area's and the cars braking behavior decided it wanted to change (only 3 out of 4 calipers is actually braking)... lucky for me I had plenty of room to brake/slow down as there was a 'brake down lane/shoulder' no one was using...

Soooo... longer story shorter... locktite your brake bolts... even on your (brand new) cars/trucks/etc.!

I did both front and rear today, thanks for the reminder. They weren't very tight.

Do you honestly think that because somebody else assembled your bikes brakes, and one of the bolts fell out ,that it's OK to not bother checking them? You could of been killed ,or killed somebody else .Do yourself a favour ,go through every nut and bolt you can see on your bike ,and secure them properly .Your life depends on it .
