My GY200

I purchased this on Ebay back in December. I had no problems getting it
registered here in N.E. Ohio. I think I have about 50 or so miles on it at
this time. Unfortunately the speedometer cable broke with 9.4 miles on it.
I have made a few modifications to it in order to make it run better. I'm
real pleased with it so far. She runs better and better everyday. I bought
some numbers for my kids bikes but they were to big. The smallest they
had at the local shop. I decided to add them to my bike just so my money
wasn't wasted. Plus my favorite number is 9. I actually bought 3's and 6's
for the kids. 6's make good 9's as well. Anyone want some white 3's? PM
me. I am adding a link to the bike on TT so you can see some pics. I
uploaded some more earlier today.

I'll try to add any updates as they come along. Happy Riding!

I see in your pictures that you installed some handguards. You mentioned that you bought them off of ebay. I want to get some (red or black). I need to get some for my son's 100cc too. He has already broke the brake handle once. :(

1. Were they a generic fit?
2. Or were they for a particular make of bike? If yes, do your remember which bike?
3. Was it a dealer that sold them? If yes, do you have his contact info?

Thanks!

dlunt - Yes I did get a set of handgaurds off of
ebay. I don't believe the individual I bought them
from was a dealer though. I used to have the
link but that computer died a few weeks ago.
IIRC I just did a search on ebay for...

Universal handguards
Mx handguards
Enduro handguards
Etc...

They were listed as universal for 7/8" bars. I
thought this was the standard but after I got
them I realized that there must be smaller
bars, because the bar-end clamps were to
small. I had to cut off the ends of the handgrips
and throttle tube in order to use them. They
didn't fit quite as well as I had hoped. I had to
use some rubber inserts I had to keep them in
the bars. The clamps for the bars fit fine, but
I still had to move the controls around to get
them to work. I even loosened and moved the
banjo (I think) bolt on the front master cylinder
to allow for clearance. Some pics...

This is basically the same setup I purchased.
http://www.eazys.net/GY200/handguard.jpg

I would buy something like this if I did it again.
These have aluminum inserts, mine don't.

http://www.eazys.net/GY200/handguard2.jpg

This is a pic of the guards from the front.
http://www.eazys.net/GY200/front.jpg

Pic of the bracket location on the bars.
http://www.eazys.net/GY200/saddle.jpg

If you look in the pics you can see how the
clutch perch hits the one. My levers are out
of wack because of them. One high one low.
The master cyclinder cover pretty much
doesn't cover the whole thing. If you have
a local shop I would take the bikes there and
hold them up for fitment. I recently saw that
the local shop had some that would have
worked as well for about $45. This definately
was quite the headache project. Knowing my
luck they'll break the first time I drop the
bike. laughs.

Hope this helps...

Thanks for the insight and pictures! It is a big help. I was worried that it might be a pain. I will do some shopping and measuring before I buy.

Actually got a chance to get out and ride a little today. Kids went to the local pool. 8)

I ran a couple of short errands and decided to hit the trails that I found. It rained quite a bit yesterday and the trails were full of mud puddles (can ya see where this is heading?). Not even tweenty yards into the trail I hit a puddle and found out (again) what it is like to have the front end wash out on me. Bike went straight to the ground on it's left side. I just stood over top of it and thought "Oh, I remember now" LOL. I have done this as a kid but it has been over tweenty years and forgotten what it was like. No damage whatsoever to the bike, just got covered in muddy water. I pinched my index and middle finger between the the clutch lever and the handguard as I laid it down. No biggie. I got right back up and kept on going. I'm definately going to look into some better tires as the stockers are ok for the road but terrible in the mud.

Just changed the oil again for the second time last night. Mileage unknown since my speedo cable broke. I figured it couldn't hurt and already had the oil. Here is a pic of the oil screen when I removed it. Bunch of small particles but nothing to cause concern.

http://www.eazys.net/GY200/screen.jpg

Also while I was down there I took and cut a bigger hole for the drain plug. I used a jig saw and expanded the original. It works well but only if the bike is in a upright position. As can be seen in the last pic. Next time I'll put a couple pieces of 2x4 under the stand.

Well I went and pulled a stupid the other day. I had an extra plug in the side toolkit on the bike. I decided to switch it with the stock one and take it around the neighborhood for a test ride. Well didn't realize till the following day that I had left the toolkit open and lost the kit and my registration which I had in there. I searched the neighborhood but came up empty. The toolkit doesn't matter but the reg did. I called the BMV and they said I could get a replacement for $4.50. At least it wasn't an expensive stupid. :?

Learned a valuable lesson the other day. Was out running around the neighborhood and found out that my gas tank doesn't really have a reserve, just a setting on the petcock. Yes I ran out of gas. Luckily I was only about two blocks away. Just pushed it home and filled it up with a gas can I had at home. I was kinda suprised that I had ran it completely dry without ever changing the petcock to the reserve position. Unless I had it on reserve the whole time? Hard to tell with the markings. The worse part is that my speedo cable broke a long time ago and I have no way to calculate how long I can ride before running out. I do plan on replacing the speedo cable just no funds at the moment.

Redid the liscense plate and lights...

Details...

I replaced the rear turn signals and the mirrors with some from a 2003 Buell XB9.
An individual gave and shipped them to me for free. I like them both a lot.

I'm not trying to be a dick here but...you have money to do all these "upgrades" but don't/won't spend money on a "cheap" speedo cable? Besides, shouldn't that be under the warranty?

I figured that was covered by this:

As frostbite pointed out I got the signals and mirrors free. I'm not too cheap just too broke. I'm a single Dad of two (wife passed Dec 95). Every June when they get out of school I loose my sitter and job as well. Can't find anyone (that I trust) to watch them all day (yes, my fault). A couple of hours before or after school is no problem. So come August I will be working again somehwere and will be able to afford more. Sorry but you asked.

Nope. I bought this off ebay, before all the warranty sites showed up. The seller has a 30 part replacement warranty but that is it. He did a great job as some things where missing and messed up. He replaced everything that was needed no questions asked. I bought three bikes from him. Pretty much on my own from here. Rocketa's website has the cable I need but $18.95 plus shipping. Unfortunately that isn't in my budget at the moment. The broken cable won't keep me from riding and having a little/lot of fun. 8)

Chain Guard...

Trails I found locally...

Not the best quality video, but cool non the less. I need to find someone
else locally that rides so I can get out a little more without worrying about
being alone. I'm all my kids have. Plus it actually gets boring at times too.
