Hawk Plastic Pieces
Does anyone know if the plastic parts on the Hawk are UV treated? Or are they going to look like an old milk jug sitting in the sun? Faded and brittle?
I know some people have painted their Hawks, but how well does the paint stay on? What brand is best to use? On the new Kawasaki Klr, it has a digital camo paint job. Since my Hawk is named the Kitty Hawk, I thought about a wrap in Navy digital camp. If it is UV protected, I was going to add some reflective stripes. Gotta b visible and keep the crazies from running me over (in Navy terms that would Scuttling the Hawk)! Thanks and have a Great Ride! Dan-O

Plastic can be treated with car products. I used Turtle Wax rubbing and polishing compound on my 1980 KX125. I think I used Meguiar's Gold Class for the final coat. No plastic likes UV rays but you can try to prevent fading or bring an old bike back to life complete with the old sticker burns that used to be on the front fender.

Digital Camo is cool, but you know what would be better? Go old school navy Dazzle lol.
As far as UV Protection, I have seen people take plastic pieces and use a plastic adhesion promoter followed by a clear coat. That would give some level of protection without a color change. I was looking at either bedliner coating my Hawk in WW2 vintage Olive Drab via Monstaliner, but I have a friend trying to start up a hydrodipping business, so I may have him do that to mine instead. Just not sure what kind of pattern to go for...

I've been using this on my boats for a long time, it works great, I'm sure it would work on the plastics on a bike. |
