2019 Honda CRF450

I'm getting wind of a Honda CRF450L dual sport coming out in 2019. I'm excited and disappointed. Excited because a 450 cc 280 pound street legal dirt bike checks all my boxes of a perfect machine, but bummed at the price, $10,000.... Yikes that is some serious cash. I would pony up $7,000 but not $10,000.

what are your thoughts?

That's a lot of money for a basic machine. My DR only cost about $7,600 out the door. I'm not a fan of the Honda enduro/dual sports anyway. I think they're way over-hyped, and WAY overpriced for what you get. Just my humble opinion.

You saw that did ya? More reason sales are low here.(high price) I love it, all the tech but that seat looks a bit thin for 200 to 300 mile off pavement adv ride. I suppose after market will make it right but geez, already shot your wad on the initial purchase price. Oh well, not cheap for quality.

Honda should have them produced in China.

I bet you'll be able to pick up deals on them after they've collected dust at the dealerships for a couple of years. What do you think, $5500? Time will tell.

I did hear/read a rummor that honda were going to
re-introduce the NX650 Dominator...
They have a big gap in the 400 to 600cc dual sport class..

but it will have to meet euro 4 ...can a detuned CRF motor be
made to be euro 4 compliyant.. i surpose any things possable if you toss
enough money at it... but we will pick up the bill in the end..

So I will leave yous with two little letters.... WR

Bike prices are ridiculous, especially when you consider that in the dirt bike world, year models go obsolete faster than cell phones.

I remember when everyone crapped their Depends when the '73 Husqvarna CR 125 listed for 1000.00. No one was ever going to pay four digits for a 125. Now you can spend four times that on a mini 65cc pit bike and people don't bat an eye. Funny thing is they still have two wheels and springs on the front and rear.

There will be Honda-only buyers lining up to get this thing.

Very conservative hp, even for Honda.

Isn't that less HP than your PP LXR250 EFI?

20,000 miles between major services is a big gap. I would have sacrificed a few thousand miles in exchange for another 10hp. The normal CRF450 motor is a high strung time bomb of a motor that needs constant coddling and attention, and it doesn't make the best road bike enigne, but a 20hp drop in power is a bit ridiculous.

I love Honda, but they have a terrible habit of under powering their bikes... and under springing and dampening the suspension. All in the name of boring reliability and vanilla - middle of the road to make everybody like it - blandness.

I miss the days when Honda built silly things or ground breaking things. Bring back the Big Red Pig. Bring back the Honda that decided to build a Touring bike for the U.S. and then stuck a, for its time, very powerful H-4 with sport bike mid range and high rpm power (GL1000).

Even a flagship bike like my VFR, which is technically impressive and an engineering exercise, was a bit short to the competition and killed with compromise.

I love Honda, but they need to get rid of their focus groups and design panels and just let their engineers have a little fun. Even the CBR1000RR SP is kind of.... not exciting.

I'll venture to guess that every single guy/gal that buys these "uncork" them as soon as it gets into the garage. Probably be easy to get 35hp and still be very reliable. That would make a great all-around bike.

Honda is also known for having the first year hp be lower so they can raise it every couple years and advertise it as "all new" with the small bump.
