tao tao 110 overcharging

Hey guys, new to the scene here, but not new to ATVs. This one has me stumped. Just bought a brand new TForce 110 for my son this christmas brand new. First of all I'm a little confused because the tag on the bike says 120, but the description says 110 when I bought it.....Anyway, my son rode it for the first time a few weeks ago for about 45 minutes and it dies and is just clicking when he tried to start it. Thought maybe battery was dead already, tried charging the battery and turns out the cap popped off and all acid evaporated. Thought bad battery, bought a new one, rode it for half hour, parked it, went out the next day, battery dead. Found a crack down the side of it. So I grabbed the battery off my polaris, and did a voltage test. Come to find out its overcharging. So Tao sent me a new stator and regulator. Replaced both, and it was still overcharging. At idle I was getting 14-14.7 volts. Any throttle applied, and it would spike to 18.5-19v. So they put me in contact with a tech. He sent me another regulator stating they sent me the wrong one to begin with. Got the newest one yesterday, and now at idle I'm getting 10-11volts, and giving it about a quarter throttle, it jumps to 22 volts! The tech also verified what the wires should look like going to the plug on the regulator and they matched. Now they aren't willing to assist me anymore and say I need to take it to a certified tech, and they won't warranty because it wasn't assembled/inspected by a technician. Any ideas? Am i just getting the wrong regulators to begin with? Is there an alternative regulator I can go with? I'm stumped.

Its my fault for not saying anything if this is the case, but I'm wondering if the machine they sent me was the same as what I ordered. Everything on the build sheet from amazon said 110 TForce. But the box it was wrapped in said 125, the owners manual says 125, and the motor class on the plate up front says 120.....Not sure if this has any thing to do with the regulators they are sending me. I would think they would be the same from say 70cc up to 150 maybe I don't know

so why is it that between the original one on the quad, and the other two they were they all different colors. original was black, second one was aluminum color, and the third was a dark gray. Not arguing with you, just trying to figure out whats going on

Did you get them directly from TaoTao? They may have sent you a generic after market rectifier.

Hopefully FLASHLIGHTBOY will chime in and can help you resolve. He is more familiar with these quads.

That has crossed my mind as well. The company I am dealing with is Smart Deals Now on Amazon, but the tech I have talked to was direct from TAO. If i search regulators on there Amazon page it comes up with dirt cheap regulators. Im guessing thats what they sent.

Something else to check is that you have a good ground for the rectifier. Bad grounding could give it false readings and causing to over charge.

Sounds like the regulator would be the place to start. Is there anything else that between the stator and the regulator before the battery?

Also, Could you post up some pictures of the ATV, and of the parts you are working with? There should be a vin label, and or emissions label on the bike. It should say what the model it is, and have the year, and engine size/family info. The 10th position of the vin will be what year the ATV is.

Have you checked out www.partskit.com? I believe this is Taotao's oem parts direct.

On the partskit website, they at least show part numbers, so it gives me something to go by. The last two regulators I received had no part numbers printed on them

Ok its looks like a 2018 with a 120cc to me. I just checked Taos parts kit web site, and the stators have different part numbers for the 110, and 120cc engines, but use the same regulator.

When you installed the battery, did you install the battery acid, and trickle charge the battery?

What information was asked for before they sent the replacement parts?

Have you tried the original stator with the newest voltage regulator?
