Congrats on the new bike and welcome. There are a couple of guys that I do believe are near your neck of the woods on here. The real challenge is if they come on here enough to see this post.

Yo, I'm on the other side of the state. We all can meet up and ride the triple nickle sometime, hear it's a cool road.

If you have a Mikuni carb look on the right side. There will be a screw, turn it right and the idle will raise. I believe you want it around 1,500 RPM. Also make sure the air/fuel mixture screw on the bottom is adjusted right.

i have the air/fuel mixture set at 1-1/2 turns from bottom. im heading home now from work so ill be able to mess with it. having a buddy that rides come give me a hand as well.. should i be worried about the occasional kickback?

also loosening the air/fuel mix screw will give it more fuel correct? i think im running much too lean

I can't think of what could be causing the kick backs off the top of my head. Hopefully one of the others put their feedback in. If you can send a video so I can hear it, it might help.

Also letting it warm up for 10 or so minutes will help you tune your carb precisely. The last page of this article gives a little more detail on what each part does and what you should do.

And yes, turning it left will give it more fuel!

okay so came home and quadruple checked valves and i am now 100 percent confident i have it correctly. so i started her back up and kept her idling with throttle as i tightened idle set screw all the way in to achieve idle without throttle. no choke by the way from start. it dies if i use choke at all. it dies when i give some throttle (after warmed up). So im thinking its too rich now? what are your thoughts?

Try to turn the Air/Fuel mixture on the bottom inward to make it leaner. Then try to shim the Jet needle. You should also let it run for ten minutes and see what it does, you want it nice and warm. Also are you using the stock carb or a mikuni?

What size slow jet are you running in the Mikuni?

im am not certain what the slow jet is, i cant find a mark on the ebay mikuni. it was about 23 degrees this morning it started without the choke. took maybe 5 seconds of holding the throttle and then it idles low by itself.. then proceeds raise rpm's at idle as it heats up over maybe 3 min. period. (will not start with half choke or full choke)

That is a really good indication that your idle mixture is too rich. If you have to go below 1 turn out from lightly seated on the idle mixture screw, then you will want to order a couple of new pilot jets. at least a 25 and maybe 27.5 and/or a 30 for really cold weather.

Did you remove the pilot jet it came with? Usually the markings are on the side of the jet and they are very tiny.

I agree with megadan. Definitely too rich on the idle mixture.
