Various scratches and what not - Uncrating Hawk 250

So Ive got the bike up on the lift and Im looking it over. I noticed a few damaged spots on the cardboard on the left side of the packaging. I noticed a scratch mark on the left passenger holy shit bar, and also some scratches on the frame down by the footpeg. Noticed the left footpeg mount is bent. Also it looks like the motor is shifted to the right...can anyone confirm if the left bottom case where it says HAWK is supposed to be straight so to speak, flowing with the bike (like other bikes), or does it have a little bit of an angle in front to back? Also noticed some dry spots near the starter where theyve missed powercoating. The alignment of the chain looks to be funky as well, perhaps that will be corrected when I flip the front sprocket. The tube from airbox to carb has a crease in it. Also it looks like the passenger footpegs dont sit flat, is that a common thing? Anyone else have to lightly grind the stopper to make them sit better? Any input is appreciated.

I wanted to let yinz know (if its been talked about before then my bad) those knock off Mikuni carbs are delicate. While taking out the longer stock jet to replace it with the bigger one, the freakin stock jet broke in half, stuck like Chuck in the pot metal. Im gonna return it and get another one.

Ive got the airbox and filter mod done. Ive got the LED lights in the headlight/tail light. Exhaust is off, I wish they didnt use those button nuts for the studs. They crank em on and its almost impossible to get them off, the left stud came unthreaded from the motor. Ive changed the fork oil. I didnt mod the spacer yet, I want to see how it performs w the (near 30mm) updated spacer first.

It sounds to me like the left side of the crate took a hit, and the bike got damaged as a result. At this point it is up to you to if you want to make a warranty claim, but if there is actual frame damage of any kind I would be looking to do so.

Can you take some pictures of the chain alignment, motor, etc?

The good news is, if the frame is damaged they can actually ship you a new one. You would just have to swap everything over to it, but considering how simple these bikes are, it actually wouldn't take too much time to do. From the details you have mentioned, it sounds like that may be the scenario, but the pictures will reveal all.

Damn after inspecting closer, there are a ton of scratches and rub marks on the entire left side of this machine. Lots of things are bent. Even on the left motor case and left side of the frame. I think it got hit hard and the frame is bent. Wonder what the next steps are, and if UPS Freight is to blame...pics soon

It really looks like it took a big hit on the frame tube at the back of the motor, the whole back motor mounts look like its bent in at least a 1/4 inch or more...

Emailed vendor, contacted UPS. They are sending a representative to my house tmrw morning to do an inspection. It looks like it mustve been dropped a few feet onto the left side.

Have any of you had something similar happen? You mentioned the company sent a new frame. Thats not really something I want to do. On top of that the motor is all scraped up. I dont really want to "fix" a brand new machine....

The foot peg itself looks to be what took the damage and not the mount. That's a good thing. The paint scuffs suck, but can be fixed/ignored. My first Hawk had some scuffs on the case and frame that I just touched up with some chassis paint and high temp gloss black.

If the rear upper mount brackets are bent, then the motor is definitely not sitting correctly in the chassis. If you take the fuel tank off you can also get a good look at the upper brackets for the mount on the cylinder head. If the rear of the motor got pushed to the right, then it is likely those brackets or the mount on the head are either bent or broken.

Think you could take some shots from further back? It's hard to judge if the motor is out of position with it so close. Also, if you can I would still like to see a shot of the chain alignment.

Man, there are scratches ALL over this bike. All over the frame on both sides. Its like a caveman put it together...weird places...I mean I get it its a 1300$ chinese bike but this doesnt seem right...
TX Power Sports www.txpowersports.com is the vendor.

I looked at the motor mounts, they seem like they are only mildy bent, but fairly straight if that makes any sense...

Ive attached a couple more pics...

Chain is def not straight, but I cant tell if its because of the front sprocket being a lil off (didnt flip it yet)...or not.

Those don't look bad at all, at least no worse than mine.

Yeah, there are quite a few scratches. My new one was the same way when I got it. I just scuffed it up around the damaged areas and gave them a quick touch up with some chassis paint in a can. I think they almost all come a bit scuffed and scratched. Ours were assembled on a Friday.

I would definitely call TXPowersports and see what they can do about the foot peg and anything else that is damaged. I will warn you now that getting them to replace parts is a very hit or miss affair, but they don't have a good reputation when it comes to filing claims. I have had my own issues dealing with them in the past, but other guys on here have had decent luck getting issues resolved, so it is worth a try.

As far as the chain being crooked looking, that is a normal issue caused by the chain guide on the swing arm. It is never on straight and causes the chain to go cockeyed right in that same spot. There are some different solutions for that issue on here and even on Youtube.

You shouldn't have to flip the front sprocket. That's a rare instance where it is required to be done.
