One option is to switch to a 428 setup using a JTF 259.12 front sprocket, a stock 40 tooth rear from a Taotao ATA250D, and a 428 118 link chain. This gives you a 3.33/1 ratio and inexpensive sreel sprockets that last a long time as opposed to aluminum.

Huge improvement in pulling power over stock. 30 to 35 mph is top long distance cruising speed but it'll do 40 max. I don't use the retainer plate, instead i make a spacer by removing the teeth from an old sprocket and put it behind the new sprocket. The splines prevent the spacer from contacting the seal. A couple standard snap rings fit inro the retainer groove to hold things in place.
