On a real mikuni VM carb with the enrichment circuit, they all use a plunger. What differs is the other end. Some are a cable plunger, and others can be setup with a thumb lever. On the real deal that thumb lever crosses over the back of the carb to the opposite side.

was hoping that this could be used (replace plunger with manual thumb) like the 2nd pic which I assume is a knock off. so how do peeps use actually Mikuni or do they not?

The VM26's I get for all mine are supposed to be the knock offs, from what people tell me, even though they say Mikuni and Japan. Either way, they're cheap, have tons of jetting available, run dang good with zero problems and great throttle response.
Sometimes "2 Buck Chuck" is fine with me.

This is what a real VM26 looks like. This is an 8074 model with a thumb pluger for the enrichment circuit.
THis is a 606 model with a pull style plunger on the enrichment circuit. The carbs in the images you shared are knock off clones with choke plates, which are very different from an enrichment circuit, which is what real VM carbs use.

There are "SS" which are special sets made just for the mfg some of them have a system that use a wire for the choke instead of the plunger
This for example is the carb that cames with the KMX125, you can unscrew that a put a plunger (i did that to my KMX125) To be honest even the big japanese brand are using chinese carbs on their cheaper small cc motorcycles. |

606 vs 8074..
Quote:
I was told by the Mikuni importer that the -606 is a newer model and that the the -8074 has an adjustable air jet, while the -606 is fixed. He didn't say one was better than the other, but suggested that most people like the plunger choke. It also has a knurled idle screw, so you don't need a screwdriver to adjust. I went with the -606, partially because of the smaller throttle valve as I was looking more for mpg than for HP. I really like it. Finally (3 tries) got it tuned in yesterday for my altitude (5680 ft). 195 Main, 27.5 Pilot, 2 turns out on pilot screw. Idles nicely at 1250 rpm. The only issue I have with it is that the pilot jet screw (air) is on the left side and is blocked by the frame. It is easy to remove the carb just from the manifold and make a tweak, but that does bug me. It is also a very tight fit with a UNI filter, not fitting completely square in the intake manifold. The -8074 has a air pilot screw too, but it is on the right side so it is accessible. I may move the -606 to my RXB150 (getting rid of the flange mount VM26) and get a -8074 for the TT250...just to satisfy my nagging itch about the access to the pilot jet screw.
