Oil Cooler - fitment

does anyone have detailed photos of how they installed the larger 125ML oil cooler setup ? I am wishing I had gone with the smaller oil cooler. I don't wish to cut the fender if I don't have to but the only spot that is secure is up near the neck and at the very least the fender will block 3/4 of the airflow. Should I just return the large cooler for the smaller (taller) vertical one ? I ride many dirt roads for the most part so I would like something with some protection from stones/sticks/etc , a puncture 10-12 miles out on some forest service would mean a crappy walk to civilization

You can shim the two rear bolts on the fender with washers and that will tilt it enough to clear the oil cooler.

This is exactly what I did with my front fender to clear the cooler. Also helps the bike look better .

Up at the steering neck is exactly where I wanted my cooler, as you can see in this picture. The fender clears the cooler just enough. It has never touched it.

Yes, obviously the front fender does block some airflow, but the cooler is still very effective. You can always cut some slots or drill some holes if you want to restore some of the airflow to that area. That is in my "eventual" future plans. I want to cut some slots and then secure some sort of a mesh to keep rocks from getting through.

Unrelated question, Dan... and I'm sure I saw it linked on one of your YT vids, but lost it, but which mirrors do you have on the new Hawk? Of all the things on the bike, the only thing that I absolutely HATE with a passion to fuel the fires of Mount Doom is the OE mirrors.

I also have an uninstalled oil cooler and wondered where everyone fit it and why didn't I get a smaller one.... my idea was to (drum roll please) shim the to front fender bolts to have it tilt a bit.....

TUSK makes radiator fans for the liquid cooled dirt bikes that have a temp sensor and fan switch that is programmable for the degree at which the fan kicks on, has anyone

tried installing one of these on their oil cooler set up?

I am seriously considering it but don't know if the fan kicking on / off will overpower the charging system , i do like to do a lot of low speed tech riding sort of like Trials type stuff and also when we arent in COVID status here in FLA , it's pretty easy to find ones self trapped in prolonged low speed traffic that shoots air cooled Bikes temps to the moon .

Curious as to you guys input on if the system will handle it and if you think the benefit would be enough justify the expense ,etc.

I have had a question relating to all of this.. I've been wanting to install a cooler.
My question is that in the pictures of these thing I noticed a syringe is included with the kit. Am I correct in assuming this is for priming the cooler at time of I installation as well as after oil changes?
Also, just curious what procedure you guys use at oil change time. Obviously you are introducing a high side to the system when mounting these on the neck

I was thinking of just skipping the cooler and installing a fan by itself. I think I would just put it on a switch, as I wouldn't need it in the winter. I have the cooler, but never was able to get it to flow, so took it off. Also, the cooler seems like a really good (bad) point of failure.

The Tusk fan is rather expensive, but it does have thermostatic control. I does 130 CFM. I was thinking about something a bit less expensive that has almost 160 CFM.

@Goob I run " Love Jugs" on my Sportster, they are a set of fans with a temp switch , they really do help ,so that is a very worthwhile idea even without an oil cooler . I have a cylinder head temp gauge installed and the fans easily make a 20 degree difference , which can literally save a engine in stop and go Florida tourist traffic ,so if you have conditions like these i'd definitely look into it as inexpensive as those fans are, if they will run on 12 volts.

Thanks for the feedback. The fan I posted is 12V for computers, but is listed as waterproof, and is cheap enough that if it does fry it wouldn't be much of an issue. I used a similar one to vent a battery compartment in an RV (going to try to figure out what one that was...as I think it was made for that purpose and similarly inexpensive).

I ride year-around, but never in snow and seldom in the rain, so I don't think I should have any water issues.

The Harley mounting location let me know where I will put mine...on the side opposite the sparkplug. I could even put a small scoop on the trailing edge of the fan.

Honestly, if you really feel like you need some sort of fan setup, just wire it to a switch so you can turn it on at low speed/prolonged stops. The thermostat idea isn't a bad one, but to me it is just a hair past overkill.
