Hawk 250 rusting after a month

Anyone have some recommendations on fixing this? My bike is kept in a shed not fully closed off but it has a roof and my exhaust is already rusting nothing bad but it's spreading fast.

It's hard to see in the picture but it has a good 3 inches of surface rust easy fix but I'm looking for some type of coating to prevent it.

I can't tell from the picture what I'm even looking at. Rust comes off chrome like nothing with steel wool. If it's a painted surface then clean and repainting is best. I would never clear coat chrome as it's dead easy to clean.

The week after I got my Hawk I removed the exhaust and removed the catalytic converter, welded the pipe back together, then repainted it with Rustoleum 5000*F flat black engine paint. I put three coats on and it has worked like a champ in avoiding rust thus far. Perhaps you could do the same?

I've done the same on all my bikes. The manufacturers paint burns off quick.

Everytime i see someone saying that they are afraid that the engine won't last. I laugh a lot inside.....

The real weak point is the crappy paint job from the factory...

Same here

The one thing that is guaranteed to last is usually the engine, although there are still the occasional QC rejects that got missed from time to time, usually in the form of a valve head breaking off of the stem - seen 3 or 4 of those on here in the last few years.

I'm not really worried about the engine myself as I have a year warranty on it.

You shouldn't be, although that "Warranty" is about 1 step above the worth of toilet paper if you have a major engine failure. GPX, SSR, and CSC are about the only importers that are worth a damn when it comes to actual warranty claims.

As far as your exhaust rusting, very normal. As the rest of the guys said, just take it off, clean it up and give it a proper high temp paint job. You could even go all out and prime it too. It will still eventually need a re-coat at some point, but it will hold up a lot better than the factory paint they put on there.
