sputtering

I have been having a problem with my bike. When I push it above 7500 rpm's or so it will "cut out" or "lose power" and has little power above 7000 before it does that. I have added a new air filter and a 115 carb jet. I'm not sure if it had that problem before I modded it because I didn't push it. I have also drilled the exhaust, only the end and first plate. Could I take the exhaust all the way off just long enough to test if that could be the problem? Maybe a carb problem? Not getting enough gas? Not enough air? I don't know. I have 2k miles on it.

Could possibly be a rev limiter.. But i thought the limiter were closer to 8500RPM on the 200cc bikes. (is it a 200??) you did not say.

Do you have the stock spark plug yet? If so replace it with a NGK plug.

Also check the connections on the CDI and coil.

I would start with the sparkplug as it probably is fouled.

Check this

Had the same problem with my new Viva SX200s, I had a kink in the choke cable.
Kinked the cable when replacing the jet, check the simple/stupid stuff first.

My bike is setup the same....foam filter, and a muffler-ectomy. I installed a 115 main jet and now at high RPM it pops and sputters, and literally will not accelerate...it seems it slows down as a matter of fact.

maybe the air/fuel screw???
