RX3 engine in a standard frame?
Hello fellow idiots , I have been infatuated with an ambitious but rubbish idea. Specifically I want to take out the engine of this bike:
https://www.saferwholesale.com/Produ...%2DDF%2D250RTE and put in this engine: https://gpxmoto.com/index.php?route=...&product_id=76 (Basically an RX3 engine with all the efi bits) I wanted to do it with that bike, because of the lack of enclosed frame on the bottom, but I was wondering if anyone has tried something similar, and how foolhardy this idea is. Yes I know for the total amount of $ I could buy a KLR or DRZ secondhand that would be better in every respect, but I think this would be a super fun project, and wanted to know if anyone has done it. And if not, why? 32HP in a cheapo frame seems like a recipe for fun. And 6 gears would be nice too. |

Offhand, without being able to measure anything I can tell you the NC250 engine is a decent amount larger front to back than any CG or CB engine clone. IF the frame is built for a counter balanced engine, it might fit. Then you will still likely need to cut and relocate the small bar bracing the back bone of the frame that the top engine mount bolts to.

For $3000, and the time involved, it might be just as much fun to buy the RX3 and strip parts off until you get it down to 150Kilos weight.

It would be fun to see a "minimalist" version of an RX3 and see how it performs.

Reviving a dead thread and doing a bit of hijacking, I know.
So This one might actually be possible for an engine transplant. The old Orion RXB250/250L (223cc air cooled engine) is a rebadged X-Moto XB-39. The XB-39 frame is designed to hold the NC250. X-Moto also has an option for the XB-39 to use the 223cc air-cooled motor. Orion went with this for the original run of bikes. If you remove the brackets used to slot 223cc motor, the NC250 would fit based on measurements and frame specs. This is further re-enforced by the User's Manual that came with the old RXB referring to the ZS177MM (NC250) engine as an option and X-Moto's own documentation for the XB-39. I've got a NC250 arriving in the next 5 days. Ordered via Alibaba. Currently in Memphis, TN. I plan to use the off season to slot it into my old RXB. I will probably start a thread for the build, but I came across this one and wanted to give an heads up someone is actually going to attempt this. |
