Leaky fuel delivery

I was out for a ride today. I was going about 60 when all of sudden the bike starts coughing like it's out of fuel. I pulled off and turned on the reserve tank with the bike continuing to run. I then realized I'm 20 miles in the country and would have to nurse it back to town. I drove 35-40 mph all the way back. When I got it home, I pulled the tank, and the hose to the carb just fell off. I put on a new piece of hose, checked the petcock filter just to be sure, and all was good. I could have fixed it in the field if I'd had a knife. One more tool to take along.
