Gearing Problems on Lifan 125cc Pitter
Hey guys,
Background: I picked up a 125cc lifan pit bike off of offer up (first mistake lol), it had a faulty 22mm carb that leaked everywhere (replaced with a different 22 and problem solved. Also have a uni pod filter that probably needs some oil ). I just recently finished tuning the carb and upon the first few test rides I was a little disappointed. My first two gears are super short and top speed, at least in my limited stretch of road, is about 35mph. I was under the assumption that these lifans hit about 40 stock. I plan on taking on a bigger stretch just to double check. If it helps, my gears are 15 front and 41 back. Is this normal? I’m just getting into this money pit of a hobby and don’t know too much haha. Anyways, thank you in advance for the help and let me know if you need more info. ![]() |

The guy I bought it off of just said it was a Lifan model. After further investigation, I found a bike that looks the exact same also under the lifan name. For your sprocket idea, I’m going to probably try a 16/36 ratio or something and see if that helps. Thank you!

Wheel size is an important factor in deciding on the optimal gear ratio.

I meant crf 50 type bikes which is what most pitbikes derived from .
