it won't start :(
yo guys. didn't know if i should start a new thread or not, but I did. here's the deal. I got most of the bike put together. haven't figured out how to hook up the rear light wiring or where to hook up the choke... any ideas on those?
hi-bird 250 by the way anyway, i did try to start it before i called it a night. tried for a long time. even push starting, kicking etc... I think i tried too long cause after awhile it didn't want to do much.. as in i think the battery had enough. The kill switch was off and the gas was on. What am I doing wrong? Should I try to charge the battery by jumping it with a car? Can you do that? It turn over a few times but never caught. I put new gas in, drained the oil and put in the recommended kind. It seems like it should have at least kick started whether the battery was toast or not. The choke lever should go on top of the handlebar clamp. The wires for the rear lights are colored so you just match the colors.
My Hi Bird was very difficult to start when I first put it together. I used up all the battery's power. After I lowered the clip on the carburetor, starting the bike became pretty easy. See this thread: http://www.chinariders.net/modules.p...ewtopic&t=4282 I've been told that one may use a car battery to jump start a bike, but keep the car's engine off. However, I've never tried it. |

If you use a car leave the car's engine off.
Go to walmart and invest into a small battery charger that has a 1-2 amp setting. Charge the battery with that. If you want to use the car. Just hookit up and let is set for 30minutes first. Allen

well assuming you have good gas flow from tank to carb,
you might take carb off and clean it out , its a pain but you might have some junk in the carb not allowing fuel to flow ? once that is determined to be in good order. pull plug wire off crank it over check for a spark ? or do this first ? make sure the fuel line is not pinched. DD[/u]

Charge your battery for a few hours.
Pull out the plug and check if the spark is ok. Check fuel is on. Check kill switch is on Check sidestand is up (some bikes has a sidestand switch) Put it in neutral, and pull the clutch all in. Pull the choke. Push the starter... If it does'nt start, then try with 10% open throttle. |

You need the choke.especially for first start...either pull it all the way out or put it all the way in...seems to work best......my battery is dead already.didnt take long, the charging system on the bike keeps the lights etc.. going, but the elec starter doesnt work.I have to kick start for now..once battery gets a recharge Ill prob save the elec start for emergency starts.the kick works better anyways......
I had an unfortunate bike dropage.the result of some high wind and some wire fence.long story short lost my right turn signal and cracked my rear tailight and fender......I replaced the turnsignals with some better ones.....it was easy enough just plug the ends of all the lighting into the matching colors on the other end.or take a guess....I used electrical tape to tape the fender so my plates dont fall off the bike when its started, Ill be looking at a replacement soon! |

Make sure the choke is working. Make sure all the switched are on and the the sidestand is up and clutch lever is in. Also put the bike in neutral.
If all that doesn't work, then check for fuel and spark. Allen

Mine is a knob mounted on the handle bars, but if you look on the carb you should see a black lever. Move it to the horizontal position. That is choke. Pointed down would be the off position.
Follow the cable from there to the location on the bars. Usually on the left side. Allen
