Western Missouri 2020 Bashan Storm
Here is a one year account of experiences with my Bashan Storm 250.
I am at ~900 foot elevation in da burbs North of Kansas City. I have a nearby "park" with numerous variable trails frequented (apparently based on tracks!) by quads and dirtbikes. Mostly the former. There is nasty wet clay, especially in the Spring that presents the biggest challenges! I encounter hikers, mushroom hunters in the Spring; all sorts of hikers, young and old. This park has been the proving grounds for the Storm. My pics show bucolic meadows and trails in the trees, but there are STEEP and rocky sections I need to document. This is where the Storm has demonstrated it's prowess, and revealed MY limitations!! I would be lying if I said I could perform above the capabilities of the Storm. It has demonstrated over and over that I am the limiting factor! No shit! It is an impressive motorcycle, especially considering I paid ~$1500 for it. -cat delete and muffler drilling done -jetting changes (details elsewhere) -no changes on the airbox Mounted tires: Rear Tusk DSport 130/90 17 Front Shinko 70/100 19 524 Front fork work: Dismantled and cleaned, reassembled with higher volume... Changed fork oil to Motul 15W medium/heavy The motorcycle was transformed by the exhaust and jetting changes, the front fork oil change (and volume change), and the addition of a pair of knobbies to replace the OEM dual sports tires. That is all it needed for my mostly offroad interest. The tire changes are probably the only significant difference from a more dual sport oriented rider. I have beat myself up on it a few times, and discovered that I am the limiting part of the equation! But after owning more than 40 motorcycles in my life, I am hardly a novice. Every time the Storm challenges me in a tough passage on the trail, I am well aware that it is up to me to rise to the occasion Here is what it looks like today: And here it is in a bucolic field in the park, where MUCH more challenging passages are all over the place. I got into trouble today twice. The Tusk is awesome, and it catapulted me up a steep path and I let the front end get off to the right in a steep spot. It took me 15 minutes to extract me and the bike and make the second attempt (successful!). I will get some pics of this rough passage Last edited by Thumper; 04-15-2022 at 08:31 PM. |
