Komoto 250 rear shock is leaking..

Hey guys, just got my Hi-Bird Komoto 250 registered in NJ! Right afterwards I came home and put the plate on and took it for a spin. Noticed something leaking when I got back, not too fast but a drip every 10 secs or so. It looks like it is coming from the rear shock. Anyone experience this? less than 5 miles on it..

Picture of leak, arrow is pointing to drip..

Heres a pic of the extent of the leak..

Could it be a bad seal? or not too abnormal for break in period?

I've posted some pics of it and would appreciate any help or ideas..

Also on a side note, my speedo stopped working but it was working initially. I did unhook it to rearrange some electrical wires but then reconnected it. Is there a certain way to reconnect it?

Another side note... My kill switch seems to only turn the bike off when it is in Neutral. This does not seem normal? or is it? Could have messed up one of the wires.

While I'm at it, my chain is very tight and I was wondering if I should get a new one or adjust it (how?) or will it stretch after a few hundred miles of riding and wait till then to see?

All in all, I'm very happy with my purchase and even more happy now that I got it registered with EASE in NJ!

Thanks for the help,
Jason

My Hi Bird doesn't leak. I would call the dealer and ask for another shock under warranty.

The stock chain on my Hi Bird was also extremely tight. I replaced it with a new chain, which is only 15 bux.

Kill switch? I never know why they exist. I just turn off the ignition with the key.

If your chain is tight then it needs to be adjusted, not replaced. A drippy shock is normally a sign if a blown seal and needs replacement. Chain adjustment is relatively simple and has been covered in this forum.

Check to see where your crankcase breather hose is routed. It may be throwing some oil on your shock.

So that when that china made throttle sticks wide open you can kill the motor while still keeping both hands on the bars..... 8O

I read somewhere that turning off the bike with the key instead of the kill switch is hard on the bike. I don't know if that's true, or how it would be hard on the electrical system?

Still, I always throw the kill before turning the key, just in case. Is there any difference in what order you turn off the key and kill? .

Chain length is adjusted by moving the rear tire forward or back. There should be some slack in your chain. Sticky.

As for your shock, talk to where you got it so you don't have to pay for another one.N2r

Ya, my rear tire is all the way forward already, guess ill have to add some links.. Also, the bike revs hard from half throttle to full but the acceleration is a lot slower and feels like clutch is still a little engaged.. ?

I don't think you can add links. You have to buy a new chain.

Sounds like a clutch adjustment is in order as well.

I have the same issue/problem with my Hi-Bird 250GY . If the tight chain is left alone, will it cause any problems?

I don't think you can add links. You have to buy a new chain.
YES, you can add links,. Just go to a motorcyckle shop and ask for half of a 428 link and another master link. Tell them what you need to do and they will know what you need. Easy fix.

You need slack in the chain, for when the swing arm moves. A tight chain adds to the heat in a chain, wear increases.

I had my rear tire pushed all the way forward and I cut a groove in the rear tire when I hit a pot hole, and the tire rubbed against the inside of the swing arm.

Thanks for the heads up, I will add the links asap.
