Unless your 13 year old is 6 feet tall he will never be able to touch the ground with either foot while on this bike.

You guys are mistaking the bike for a full sized Hawk. The Hawk 150 is smaller.

Yeah, seat height is 32" without a rider. So even if it's a slight stretch for him at 13, he will grow into it. My X-pect had a seat height of 33", and with my 32" inseam I could flatfoot it with decent bend in my legs.

Unless you have another child to pass the bike onto, then you may just want to buy a Japanese used bike. A 13 year old will outgrow the bike before he wears it out. I will mention that some of the little Chinese youth size bikes have some sort of automatic, or semi automatic transmission. If you want him to learn how to clutch, and shift, then you may want to take that into consideration.

Not bad advice really, but finding a used Japanese bike in good running condition, with all the essential parts, that isn't beat to hell, for the $999 that the Hawk 150 costs... not likely to happen. At least not in my corner of the US.

People are expecting high prices for used Japanese dirt bikes. You can find them in the MidWest, but most are overpriced even here.

For less than $1000, you can get a nice new Chinese crate bike. Chances are, you will be doing just as much work to get/keep either running! Well, I shouldn't say that about Chinese bikes. QC is randomly bad! But overall, we have seen quality improving.

what about the RPS magician 250...
Basically the same seat height as the hawk150.

But might last a little longer with the bigger displacement...and can be road registered if ever required...So some amount of future proofing.

Reliably about the same...still under 20hp so mild tempered.

just doesn't have that 'modern dirt bike appearance' which is subjective

The engine is the same as in the Hawk 250, so no problem there. But, from what I recall reading about the bike here on Chinariders over the years, there are issues with the frames breaking and whatnot. Not to mention, I think the regular Hawk would be far better suited for dirt (but yes, very tall) compared to the Magician.

I think these are pretty decent bikes. They have been sold for years as they were offered by Hensim when Hensim was a brand in the US over 10 years ago. They are still mfg. by Hensim, as RPS sells several of the Hensim bikes under slightly different branding.

I would also suggest to look into a standard pitbike by any of the 'usual suspects' of brands: Taotao, BMS, Orion, Apollo, Peace, RPS, etc. They are short enough for kids, but it seems like adults ride them, too, so they have a sort of 'never aging' going for them, not to mention most every brand of them seem to be built like tanks as compared to other types of enduro/dual-sport/dirtbikes.

I have a Bashan Storm, and my opinion is the build quality is way better than the Magician or Hawk. The Magician was my first China bike, and I bought it because of the ride height. My Storm is the same height.

Yet, the OP asked about neither bike, or the storm.

The "Hawk" 150 is a completely different machine all together, and is more of a large scale pit bike. All of this quality discussion is meaningless, as it doesn't pertain to the bike in question by the OP.

I am open to suggestions and would be glad to know if there is a better option then the bike I had in question.

That really just depends on the intended use of the bike, the rider, etc. We only know his age at this point.
