two mods, muffler drilled, and brake material removed

Hi yall. well the old AL kicked over 1.200 km today. she is running good but I was very bored today and decided to try a few more mods here is what I accomplished

Muffler: I drilled 3 1/2 inch holes in themuffler because I felt I was running a choked up exhaust. as for performance I noticed no change. however it has a deeper thump at an idle and slightly louder at cruising speds :( I like a nice quiet exhaust. the muffler is no longer usfs approved spark arrester because there is more than three inches behind the holes drilled. as far as I am concerned I screwed up on this one it was a total miss.

Brakes: I removed the front brakes excess material with a hacksaw and then smoothed off the sharp edges. after putting it back togather the annoying brake rattel is compleatly gone brake mod was a definate hit.

Maybe it's the combination of drilling and rejetting that makes the difference. Seems like it should help some, though.

Have you added a cone type air filter? I don't believe just drilling the muffler
will change much if anything. Adding a filter and modding the muffler along
with rejetting depending on location will make more of a difference.

Good to hear about the front brakes as I plan on doing this as well one day.

More air in, and more gas in, then get more exhaust out. What's your plug color look like now?

Just drilling the muffler won't do much without adding a pod filter and jetting the carb.

It probably does sound better though.

no pod filter yet,

how about the mainjet? how many sizes should I be going up? what is the stock sizing? can I use mikuni jets?

as for the muffler, don't think I will be happy with the stocker I will have to go find something to replace it with something that is quiet, and breathes well, does anyone have a suggestion for a good muffler. don't care if it is usfs approved but do like to have a quiet system.

Adding a pod filter will make more of a difference as it allows more air into
the carb.

As for jetting it really depends on where you are at. We are a little over
1000 feet above sea level here in Ohio. My stock main jet was a 98 and
I replaced it with a 107.5. It works good, but I think I need to find a 105
or close as it is a little rich. My jets are the same as a keihin (sp?). I got
them at the local dealership.

I'm still working on the muffler myself aso I'm no help here.

Was out in the garage a bit ago and looked at the front brakes on my GY.
The pads are exactly the same width as the rotor. Guess I won't have to
mess with them. They must be different than the AL.
