Hi-bird 250cc NightHawk clone fuel issues

Having fuel delivery issues. Carb seems to be getting fuel fine. Changed the c clip on the pin across the board. Engine starts, idles sometimes, but seems to cut out after revving past 4k rpm. Any suggestions? Jets seem fine and clear.

if the float bowl and jets are clean, then it could be a ignition issue. does that machine come with some shipping gel in carb?

Bowl and jets are clean. Seem to be spark fine. We pulled the spark plug and ran the starter for a bit and couldn't smell hardly any fuel in the cylinder.

sounds like you need to give a call to the outfit you purchased the bike from. they might have a handle on the problem, and save you hours of investigation.

I think you have a carb problem with it not getting enough fuel for high rpm.

Did you run a fine wire through the jets? It may be just one small speck of dirt plugging it.

There is a carb break down sticky in the dual sport forum showing all the parts.

It doesn't take much for it to plug.

Also when you moved the c-clip did you move it toward the pointed end?

Took the carb completely apart and cleaned it with carb cleaner. SEems to work better. Will see after a couple days of riding.

Thanks!

You could add a fuel line filter, it might help

Is the choke operating correctly?

Make sure it is not sticking. Allen

both seem to be operating fine. When cold, I can rev it up to about 5-6k and let it down fast and it sometimes dies from this... Also I cannot seem to get it to idle below 2k or so,

maybe the tank petcock itself has some crud in it blocking the fuel flow.. that might be worth chasing down. also with the idle at 2k it sounds like a sticking throttle or slide not allowing the carb into the idle jet range.

If there are this many problems with fuel delivery. I would dunk the carb, and buy a rebuild kit. Rebuild kits do wonders, carb parts can look clean, but they are sometimes deciving.

PS: Or it could be bad gas remember KISS.
