Stock up on parts

After my bike was indisposed for one week because of a burnt out headlight bulb, I thought it might not be a bad idea to stock up on parts. If a simple bulb can sideline my china bike for a week, I can't imagine how much longer it would be for a weighty part. Is this a good idea? If so, which parts should I stock up? Here is a list I started.

headlight, tail and brake light bulbs
clutch cable
brake pads
CDI
spark plug
tubes
tires

I have spare bulbs, tires, tubes. The tires and tubes since I already had them from other bikes and the bulbs since the shipping was the same for more than one.

My taillight bulb is a standard autoparts store bulb.

The CDIs are cheap and so are sparkplugs so you could get them too.

If you look in the parts list the BA20D bulbs for $3 ea. have to be purchased in lots of 10. So, this was a good excuse for me to have more. Plus, I have 3 bikes to keep running.

A throttle cable as well as the clutch cable would be wise.
Both of these will leave you stranded. A great idea I have
seen a few times is to run the new cables along the current
ones with wire ties. That way if one breaks you can just
hook up the new one in a matter of minutes. Although not
safe, nor advised I can still ride without the lights...

It took me a while to visualize, but I got it. Great idea!

What about the clutch? Should I stock up? Or is it suppose to last the life of the engine?

My driving is 95% stop-n-go type.

The clutch cable will likely break at some point. The clutch discs will eventually need replacement, but it should be several thousand miles.

Not a bad idea to have a set of cables ready.

The tires are not really that big of a deal. I just have extra because they were there.

Stocking up is indeed wise. If you have problems buying new bikes (and there is a supply problem there these days) then I'd expect it would be even harder to find parts.

I've been putting Honda bits on my bike for the last while.

My bulb was a standard h-4...Like harleys and stuff...The rest of the bulbs were just standard bulbs.

It's embarrassing to say what I ride with. Lets just say I ride well prepared. Can't wait till I see a rider with a metric bike that needs help. So far the only bikes I see broken down on the road are American and all my metric stuff is useless. :?

Just a couple small things to add to the list-- Most probs I've had were electrical in nature, SO! I'd add: Cheapo Mini-test light. Electrical tape. 3 ft of Blue wire. Crap load of fuses. Small Utility knife or some sort. Maybe a few Crimp Connectors and Scotch Locks. (Not I would ever endorse or recommend them, but who wants to carry a soldering iron/accesories?)
