Great Dual Sport ride on Sat. LOTS OF PICS!!

Hey all, The localriders.com group went on a "light" dual sport ride on Sat. I put 290 miles on the Roketa all together.. now have almost 4200 miles on it.

We met in the Eastgate area, then did some light riding, gravel (I really don't like gravel) , backroads and a couple small river crossings. Then stopped and met the rest of the group.. a lot of KLR 650's my friend John has a DR400, and one VStrom 650 with street tires. 8O .

Did some more backroads, and gravel.. then stopped at Pike County ATV park.. and did some serious off roading ( at least by my standards ) my new 46t rear did GREAT.. perfect ratio.. climbed every hill without any problems...
Unfortunately only a couple pics were taken at the ATV park there was not really any time to take pics until one of the KLR riders.. a newbie that had never done ANY dual sporting (it is a commuter bike for him.. 25,000 miles in 2 years )
Well he was in the wrong gear going up a hill and stalled it... bike rolled backwards.. and he jumped off rather than have it land on him... broke his mirror, and the clutch lever perch.. some zip ties, and we had him going again...

Then we all headed home... man was I tired.. and sore the next day.
Well here are the pics, in chronological order. Hope you like them. I am the one in blue gear on the red China bike. (only one there)

Group picture at the start

The rest of the group joining us.

The first river crossing was just before this point.. unfortunatly no one took a pic of it.. the river was wide, but very low water this day.

Here is the VSTROM 650.. he had no troubles either.

Check out the tank on this KLR 8 Gallons !!!! 8O

Second "river" crossing

Me being an IDIOT.. i put my feet up hoping to keep them dry.. did not work.

My friend John on the DR400 preparing to cross again for the camera

KLR doing a wheelie thru the water.

At Pike County ATV park.

The LAW came to investigate the large group... he was going out as we came in.. he turned around to check us out. He was very nice guy..mostly curious about the big group.

Us all trying to "Help" the guy who put his KLR down.

The damaged KLR

Well.. that's it.. Hope you like the pictures.. It really is amazing how capable these China bikes are.. I got several compliments on the bike....
But I am now dreaming of a KLR650... will have to find one lowered though.. I cant even get on a new one. :(

Ken

Good times!! Should be many more miles in the Roketa if it's anything like mine. Great pics, thanks for sharing.

I can't wait to get out again in the rough and off the street after seeing your pics.

I had only been on one other group ride with the China bike... But I did have a couple of people say "your the the China bike rider right??" But no one said anything degrading... Since I was able to keep up with everybody.. there was not much they really could say.

It easy to bash them online like TT. Most people won't comment when you actually complete everything they did.

I had a guy on a BMW that pulled up to the same scenic overlook that didn't believe me when I told him I just rode it 75 miles at 65mph and that I would taking it to the top of a couple mountains on single track before taking the interstate back home.

People just dont want to believe that something so "cheap" can be that good. There ARE some VERY VERY CRAPPY ones out there.. We see it on ChinaRiders.net sometimes. Some bike come with the wiring incomplete or not hooked up, fuel line gone, missing bolts. It just depends WHERE it was built in China, not what the name on the side of the bike says.. ROKETA.. means nothing.. its just the importers name. My bike was made by Shanghai JMStar.. and it has been VERY VERY GOOD... I have never had an electrical problem till Sun (headlight bulb went out) and never a mechanical problem either. My clutch is slipping at 4200 miles, but that is MY FAULT.. I did not adjust it when I put it together, and was riding the first 1000 miles with the clutch not fully ingaged.. I did not realize it cause it was not slipping. BUT SO WHAT!!! I can get the complete basket with all the parts for $85 OR a complete engine for $150.

I would bet you could take your China bike places that BMW would NOT go.. because of weight and size... 200cc IS PLENTY to go offroad (mabye not deep sand) But any forest road, or deep trails is no problem.

I plan to ride this as long as I can, it gets god mileage, and it is easy to ride.

I must say that I would LOVE to get a KLR 650.. But it would need to be lowered, for me to ride it.

Have a good one..

Ken

He wanted to ride with me until I told him where I was going. It was a street bike.

Some of these china bikes are really bad, but most overall are okay.

I agree, the 200cc bike does quite well for my mtn road /trail riding in the mountains. For commuting, well for me it is pushing it a bit and that is why I recently picked up a DR650SE. The Suzuki will be my daily commute rig and my Tank will be for trail/logging road riding. I also plan to take my DR out for some long dual-sport group rides in the future (looks like fun).
