hi bird 250 sounds like a riding lawn mower!

is everyones hibird loud? mine is too loud and sounds like a lawn mower. i wouldnt mind the noise if it sounded cool. ive got a crf 250 muffler im going to adap to the factory pipe, it may be louder but at least it will sound better. will gutting the cat. make it louder? or just deeper sounding? Do the trick cdi units help these bikes. ive been thinking of just bumping the timing up a little 8)

I know that Dragon complains that his Hibird is loud. I gutted the cat and opened up the holes in my muffler and really did not notice any dramatic difference in sound.

I know there are some bikes out there that are MUCH louder than my bike. Getting it quieter is the hard part. Most aftermarket pipes are aimed at gains in performance and therefore tend to be less restrictive and louder. Maybe a stock tail piece off a different bike would work?

Dunno if they're still around but there used to be a company that used modular disks at the end of their exhaust. You could add or substract these modules to get the sound/power level you wanted for the conditions of the moment. Was a great system and I had several friends that bought the pipes and were very pleased with the result.

they were a bit pricey, but if you could find that setup used..... I had the chance several times to wander thru a motorcycle junk yard and it was amazing how many good parts were available on the bikes there. If you have one local to you, might be a good place to start looking on the cheap.

It sounds like you're describing a Supertrapp. Check 'em out at www.supertrapp.com

Cheers!

Yep, my 'Bird 250 is loud too. Out of the crate, the exhaust wasn't installed properly, the muffler mount was crooked, and the muffler was loud. Since then, I've fixed everything except for the muffler. The noise is bearable under half-throttle and with ear-plugs. At more than half-throttle, even ear-plugs isn't enough to keep the noise from driving me nuts. I've been searching for a quiet muffler, but no luck. The stock Hibird250 muffler is rubbish.
