I added a streetbike (temporarally) to the stable

I bought the 250 Kinroad Dual Exhaust. Or Motofino, which is what it was called on the fairing. Who knows...

$1200. 2008 with 40 km on the clock, still in it's protective plastic and with the nubbins still on the tires. Titled through 1/2009.

I did a full prep on it, and the way this bike was assembled, that's a good thing. Lots of Locktite, and grease. I pulled and greased the wheels, changed the oil and cleaned the filter, hcecked the brakes, adjusted the headset, removed the plastic, replaced the battery with a sealed unit, aired the tires, properly lubed and adjusted the chain, and gave it a proper wash and wax.

It rides well. 65 mph is no problem, so when it's broken in and regeared I bet 70+ will be easy enough. It handles well, and it's pretty comfortable. Vibration is not excessive.

OK, my questions:

It needs higher gearing. What are my options? Any links to parts?

The lights are poor. Quite dim. Is this the way they are or is this unusual. Funny I could not check the voltage with the bike running. I guess it's a nor resistor plug and it made my digital voltmeter go haywire when it's running. I wonder if I might have a charging problem.

The gas gauge did not work. I found a broken yellow wire, so I fixed it and the gauge works, but it's the darndest thing. When I start the bike the instrument quits and goes to E. The only way it works is with the ignition on and the motor off. What's up with that? The instument lights are also weak, but the brake lights, horn, and blinkers seem normal enough.

Are these bikes prone to electical issues? Is this normal?

I'm inclined to agree with your non-resistor plug assessment. Try a resistor plug first and see if the gas guage and lights behave. If there is no improvement, I wonder if a diode is in order. Perhaps some of our more electronically minded members could chime in.

I've always used the JT Sprockets website to find what I need. If you remove the sprockets and measure all aspects carefully (noting the chain size), you'll certainly find what you're after.

Wow! That's a 250cc with dual exhaust and counter-balancer. Very impressive. It should be able to beat the popular LF200-iii in a drag race.

Nice bike! Check the carb cap real quick(where the throttle cable enters). Looks to be a bit loose. If it comes off, it fails WOT.

Well that was a quick turnover. :?

My plan was to buy (steal) the bike, ride it for the summer, then sell it, hopefully at a profit.

But...

My truck developed a transmission problem at the same time my best friend's son needed a starter bike, so I sold it to him for what I paid, $1,200. PLUS I did all the prep work and detailing, so he got a great deal. I feel happy to help him out.

It rides great, I took it to work today one last time. 65 is easy, and after a regear it should do a semi-relaxed 70 plus.

Quite comfortable, decent brakes.

Engine sounds like a lawnmower though, and is on the loud side, probably because the fairing reflects sound upwards towards the rider.

Handling is good. Low CG and wide tires and semi stiff suspension. Push it though and you can feel some frame flex (or maybe swingarm) and the sidestand (or centerstand) will drag in hard left turns.

It does turn heads though, and receive compliments. :oops:

I am happy to pass it on to a good kid. I'll help him maintain and care for it until he is ready to move up.

Bill, I need to move closer to the Tri-Cities so I can get some of your "leftover" motorcycles!

Thanks for doing the kid a favor; I am very gratified whenever I see someone perform a kind, decent act. It sounds like the Kinroad will be a great first motorcycle for that young man; he is very lucky to have you as his mentor.

Don't fret too much about the quick turnover; somehow I have the feeling that you are going to find another great "deal" in the near future!

I hope the bike holds up well. It is not made up to the standards of my HSUN, FWIW. I'll keep an eye on though.
