Oil

question on oil type.

I need suggestions on type of oil, i plan on staying with dino oil for 1000k
But will any 10-40 motor oil do or do i need to get special motorcycle 10-40 oil?

Rotella 15w-40

Or Motorcycle designated Motor oil.

I have Rotella in every bike I have.

I just use cheap Penzoil 10 - 40 motorcycle oil, but I am not an expert on oils.

I had the same question at one time i own a 2006 Roketa DB-07 enduro and I just changed my oil and spark plug this weekend and got everything at Autozone got one quart of 4 stroke 10w-40 it was in a black bottle think it was pennzoil but it and the plug did great

I agree. You can't go wrong with Shell Rotella T 15W-40, or, better yet, Shell Rotella T 5W-40 Synthetic motor oil.

On a Side note........ Make sure to break the engine in on Regular motorcycle oil or Rotella non synthetic. I know Spud knows this, I just wanted that out in the open.

I used the 15w40 rotella with great success. It is cheap too.

Oil is for wussies. I refuse to use the stuff, it makes a mess and is hard on the environment!

Rotella rocks. Synthetic is fine even in a new engine, but I think it's a waste as often as you change the oil in a bike. (BTW, I ran synthetic in my Jeep from a brand new rebuild, day one. The rings seated just fine and I had NO problems at all. That was an engine running about 11:1 compression too.)

Penzoil I wouldn't run in a turd grinder. If you change the oil every other day it might be OK, but it builds sludge FAST.. (Penzoil uses a paraffin base.) I've seen several engines destroyed from having the oil pickups clogged after running the stuff.

Just stay away from oils that say something about improved mileage, usually they have extra moly in the mix and that can make the clutch slip.

I get conflicting information on Rotella, is it a real true synthetic? Amsoil supposedly is? Is it better to have a true synthetic? Sounds like Rotella is the way to go, and if it works well then I dont care but I would like to get this right the first time because I do not want to change brands once I start for consistency.

Oil is the same as beer for guys, Everyone has a favorite and the rest is swill And yes Penzoil was a sluge monster but finally changed the formula some years ago but I still don't trust it and will never run it. I like good ol Valvoline but I am curious aboutthe rotella I might try it next oil change.

Rotella comes in two flavors; synthetic and dino. One's in a blue jug the other's in a white jug.

As far as break in is concerned... there's still some debate going on. I think it stems from the early synthetics being so darned slick and not good for either brand new engines or old, worn engines. The stuff out now has been reformulated. I broke my Jeep in with synthetic, but it was really a waste. The oil needs to be changed so frequently it's hard to justify the cost. Honestly, I don't run synthetic in any of my bikes as it gets changed so often it really makes no difference. You can open any engine that I own and I guarantee they will look good inside. I have a Toyota with 225,000 miles on the clock, when I replaced the head gasket it still had the crosshatching in the cylinders. That truck has never seen a drop of synthetic oil, just regular changes with Castrol GTX.

People will debate oil until the cows come home... I say just keep it fresh and it's all good!

Interestingly enough Penzoil in Canada is made by Shell, yes folks, it comes out of the very same place as Rotella.

Yep, oil comes out of wells drilled into the ground
