Best dual purpose to buy... Live in Alberta

Hello all,
I am thinking of selling my Honda Shadow and getting a nice little dual purpose bike. I would like something that can do highway speeds, so am thinking of a 200 or 250 at least? I live in central Alberta too, so would have to be a Canadian dealer... Have a couple of Gio quads but they don't do dual sport. So, any suggestions for a good machine I can get here? Sorry if this has already been asked, the forum search kind of overwhelmed me with the results .

Regards,
Stew

If you wish to ride a lot, and safely, on limited-access highways/freeways, a 200cc motorcycle is probably too small. I don't know if you have any dealers nearby, but you might want to examine the motorcycle listed in the link below.

Please tell us more about your plans for using the motorcycle.

The saga 250 was just reviewed by member kawazacky. www.dualsportnews.com It requires $4 to subscribe online. Worth it.

I would have to say just by the pics and Saga's willingness to answer questions here that it is worth exploring.

Hi Spud!
Awesome looking bike, though way more than I was planning on spending. I have a Shadow ACE right now, but don't ride it much anymore. I was thinking that something street/trail would be nice to try... Handy for exploring gravel roads and trails yet can be driven there versus being hauled. Odd trip to work in the summer maybe, a 90 km commute. Mostly though, something for cruising around town and dirt roads. If I'm looking for something cheap should I be looking at used units? Not too many chinese bikes in the classifieds here. Lol, i was kind of hoping for something dirt cheap like my quads... I don't mind putting them together as I spent tons and tons of time wrenching on bikes in the past.

So, thats $2500 for the 250 dual sport? Can you order them shipped to you or do you have to pick them up at a dealership? (Noticed there is one in Edmonton) Will it comfortably do highway speeds? Not talking about 120 kmh here, just 100 . Oh, and do they come assembled with warranty? Thank you for your time.

Anyone ever get one of those Pitster 400's? They look pretty decent for the price, never checked dealer network to see about availabililty/shipping to here though. Not buying right away, I would probably wait till spring as our riding season is pretty much over here... Just researching for when I do buy

Thanks for the info. I got a hold of Honda to see what they could do for me. Not a Chinese bike I know, but they offered me a brand new CRF230L for $1500 difference with my Shadow as a Trade... Thinking, thinking...

Lol, Shadow is a 1998 ACE 750 Euro. Mint condition with N/C windshield and leather bags. 20k and never spent the night outside. Honda will give me $3500 for it... Not bad for 11 year old bike that I paid $9 and change for, though I would probably get more on a private sale... The Zong is a 250?

"More info than you would want...!" 8O Phil, how could you possibly have more info than you would want about the Zong?

Since you only need to go 100 kph, a 200cc, or 250cc motorcycle will work well for you, Stew. The Pitster Pro LXT 400 is essentially the same motorcycle as the Xingyue XY400Y2.
