Ultra light weight Lithium ion battery

A couple weeks ago I purchased 8 a123 batteries off of eBay for about $18 shipped. they are 3.6v 2A per cell which presents a slight problem as to weather to under volt or over volt as the combinations will equal 10.8 or 14.4 volts. for now i have it set up as a 10.8 volt to try testing when I get back to AK and my motorcycle. the other two cells can be added if it does not work with sets of three. Admittedly I'm not the best at electronics. so any suggestions or improvement ideas are welcome

Are you sure they are 3.6v?

You want 8-3.3v for a 13.2v battery.

yep 3.6 the 3.3v ones were a lot more expensive

Wow! I have not done anything like that before! I do alot of automotive electrical work and while that could power your lights and so on I don't think there is enough Amps to do any sort of starting power. It might act like it wants to but a starter would likely suck the life out of the batteries and melt your wires with that much required current.

However, if you were to use your kickstart to start your bike and put some diodes and resistors (I have no idea the combination) in there to send just the littlest bit of current to those batteries to keep them charged, you might be on to something.

I might be way off, I've been "desk bound" for several years.

On a similar side note, years ago I was bored and connected four nine volt batteries together. Positive to the others negative etc, and ran a wire from the first positive to a flasher relay and a light and to the negative of the last one, and it powered it all up without damaging anything. I measured it and it was 36 volts, just really low amps. Does this help? I'm lost now.

Similar setups have been used on street bikes with out problems, but ill see how it goes, I'm definetly not ready to throw away my old battery.

Just search A123 26650. SpudRider's battery is just the commercial version

ok just got a new version of the battery installed. this one is using the cells I meant to buy (more amps, less volts, more expensive).

i bought 4 3.3v 2300mAH a123 and got them all buttoned up with heavy gauge wire. tested it by connecting it directly to the starter and it works great, hooked it up and all electronics are good to go. Now i just need to put the gas tank on and the bike is good to go.

If any of you are interested in having me build you one, I'll do a little more testing and if all is well 4 cell versions will be $60 8 cell (lasts twice as long) for $115
