Do boat Ride Reports count?

Megan and I in my boat on the Mighty Columbia River.

Beautiful day, beautiful scenery, an even more beautiful girl. I am a happy man.

We just powered upstream a few miles, killed the motor and drifted downstream for a couple of hours talking, listening to music, and sipping wine.

Let it be known that I am a very blessed and thankful man.

Looks like a great day!

Actually, this is a "float report."

I'm not trying to scold you, but shouldn't you be wearing life vests, especially if you were consuming alcohol?

I was going to scold you on the lack of PFDs too Doc. Its just like getting caught posting a pic riding without a helmet.

PFD's are not required for adults, in the state of WA at any rate.

We drank 1/2 bottle of Merlot between the two of us in two hours, I think we were OK  .

Putting a lifevest on Miss Megan would be akin to putting a tablecloth over the Mona Lisa. The fact that she was a competitive swimmer and I was a lifeguard not withstanding.

Such nannies!

LOL! :P

I thought you were going to post the following reply, Brother Bill.

"Of course we were wearing PFDs! We merely removed them momentarily, for photographic purposes."

Unless water skiing where is is required and prudent I don't wear a PFD out on the water. I also don't wear a helmet in the convertible, or steel toed boots to my office.

As long as you have them easily accessible in the boat I will let you go. Too many people store them away under seats/floors where they would be nearly impossible to get too if needed in a hurry.

Water Safety Instructor. I had to say something.

I was also a WSI! Many years ago but I still remember a lot of it! The vests are indeed under the seats but they just pull up in literally a second.

As long as you don't drink on the job, I'll give you a pass on the steel toed shoes, Doc. I'm curious; is it legal to drink alcoholic beverages while boating in the PRW (People's Republik of Washington)?

I thought so!

You are not allowed to be under the influence but some drinking is involved.

By the way almost all of Washington east of the Cascades remains under rebel control. The Libs tend to congregrate around the Puget Sound. I think the eastern side of the state benefits from the conservative influence of neighboring Idaho. 8)

Just found this description of the law here:

Alcohol consumption and cruising go hand in hand for many people. A cold beer on a sunny day or a glass of wine in the evening can enhance a nice day on the water. But beware, there are specific laws that prohibit operating a boat while intoxicated and the penalties can be severe.

Washington State and British Columbia have similar laws. It is not illegal to consume alcohol on board your boat and in Washington even the vessel operator can consume alcohol while driving a boat. However, the penalties for intoxication are different.
