Oil change intervals?

After the first couple of oil changes when new, how often are "we " changing our oil? My little manual states every 1250 miles (2000km), with modern high performance oils I'm tempted to double this. I use a quality 15w/40 designed for agricultural diesel engines, I buy it in bulk and it does for the car as well.

Jonathan.

Per this thread: http://www.chinariders.net/modules.p...er=asc&start=0
And this linked article: http://www.chinariders.net/modules.p...er=asc&start=0
I'm using the Shell Rotalla-T Synthetic.

Since it is so simple and quick to change the oil in this thing, I change it quite frequently. Not necessarily at regular intervals, but every 500-750 miles or about once/month for me. I try and remember to change it near the first of the month. For 10 minutes of my time and $5/change, its pretty simple insurance.

It only takes 10 minutes and 1 quart, so why would you risk it? These engines don't have a good filtration system, run VERY hot and the transmission gears also run in this oil which adds to the contamination. I dropped mine at 25 miles, 100 miles, 250, 450 and at about 600 I am going to full synthetic. At each of those intervals it was time. The oil was black and had some metal filings floating around in it. I intend to change the synthetic every 500 miles AT LEAST. It's pretty cheap insurance.

It's impossible to change the oil 'too much'. The more the merrier I say. Your engine will thank you.

i don't run the rotella synthetic just because it has a api rating that is higher than sj. i think it's sl if i remember correctly and the non synthetic is sm. all motorcycle oils that i have seen are sj and i hear that's the higest api rating that you want to run for wet clutch. i just recently switched from running mobile 1 0-40 api sm that was making my clutch slip to Repsol 15-50 dino oil that seem to make my clutch allot happier. it's only $4.99 a liter and i usually tell myself i'll change it every 1,000 miles but i probly change it every 500.
