Check your air filter
If you haven't done this yet, check your air filter.
I looked at mine recently and it was almost bone dry. I added some filter oil and it actually quieted the engine down. Probably getting some noise from the intake side. Here's the CSC tutorial on air filter maintenance: http://www.cscmotorcycles.com/Articles.asp?ID=254
