The LED we've been waiting for!

Well, I received my GENSSI Elite LED lamps and they are officially AWESOME!!!

This is the third LED I've purchased and tested and these are by far the best I've seen.

• It emulates a halogen lamp's overall dimensions, including filament length, orientation and placement.
• It uses 25W per lamp.
• It delivers 4000 lumens (low or high beam).
• It delivers a 6000K white light.
• It has a front shield to prevent direct glare.
• It has a low beam shield to create a cutoff line.
• The lamp can be rotated as needed for an optimal beam pattern.
• It has a fanless heatsink.
• The heatsink is removable and reversible for tight applications.
• It fits the RX3 housing if you cut off the back, which you should, for ventilation.
• They cost $50/pair ... so buy a set and share with a friend!

Here's a comparison pic with my previous LED. The new GENSSI has a blue heatsink.

As you can see, the GENSSI is about the same height as the old one, and it fits perfectly in our housing with the back cut out, which I would recommend anyway. This is a fanless heatsink and needs airflow to dissipate heat. Water may enter the housing, but the waterproof boot behind the lamp keeps moisture out of the reflector so it's fine in the rain.

The heatsink is reversible to save 5mm, but it fit nicely without bothering with that.

You can clearly see the shield that provides a cutoff for the low beam. The high beam is unshielded and provides a nice full beam.

I apologize for the poor quality pics (Edit: these are new pics, much higher quality), but the light is pure white with maybe a small hint of blue. You can see a clear cutoff in the low beam and a nice wide dispersal with a broad hotspot. What you can't see is the nice lighting to both sides.

The only downside of the low beam is the up angle toward the left. This is fine for driving on the left side of the road (Japan, UK, Australia), but is the opposite of what we need in the US. But it's sooo much better than my previous beam! I'm not going to worry about it for now, but I may rotate the lamp counterclockwise to send the angle up toward the right.

The high beam provides a nice wide oval with slight shadows on the bottom left and right of the hotspot. Outside of the hotspot, the lamp provides good light to the sides.

Note: When the high beam is on, the low beam is off. We get 4000 lumens on low and the same on high beam. I'm fine with this. I don't need 8000 lumens high beam and the whole point is to NOT melt the housing!

Also Note: I'm using the 2015.5 headlight that lacks the LED strips on each side. I think this helps widen the light pattern.

Yep that's a pretty solid beam no artifacts. I wonder if you could turn the bulb counterclockwise a bit to lower that left high glare you were speaking about. Just a thought but looks good and pure.

Great job, Detours! Dang... I feel like I've been following your LED adventures step for step... mostly because I have! LOL - I guess I'll have to order a set of the LED bulbs for my RX3 also!

Yes, there are two lockscrews that you can loosen with the provided allen wrench. Then you rotate it as much as you want and lock it down again. It's very easy to do.

Thanks for discovering this excellent LED bulb, and posting the superb review.

If you have time, can you install this LED bulb in the original RX3 headlight? I wonder if the beam pattern changes much with the original headlight reflector.

Since it was so late, I was not able to try out the new LED on the road. Hopefully I can give it a good road test tonight. But based on the focus, intensity and light pattern at 25 feet, I have high hopes for it. I'll be checking for roadside illumination and distance.

Is that what is the problem with the OEM blub? I know that it is only 35w, but is it also an incandescent blub and not a halogen?

I haven't worried about it too much because I have aux LEDs, but this LED bulb looks worth trying.
