I think you may have the wrong lead to the common blade of the bulb.
Matching colors isnt necessarily straight forward. Use a volt and ohms meter to figure out which is which. Seems I had a similare issue - when I first connected the wires the new H4 didnt light properly. I sorted out where the scooter wires lead, and connected them to my socket leads. I used male and female spades to do the connecting, though maybe I'll switch to soldered joints later. |

I haven't had a single problem with my H4 headlight conversion; it works great!

Seconding what Jeepsteve said. Sounds like you just have your wires in the wrong order. I also did this the first time I wired up mine. IIRC the top pin* is ground which will be a green wire. the other 2 pins on each side of it are low and high beam.
I could never go back to a stock bulb. A 45w h4 works great on mine. Even without a regular battery (Kickstart with a little 12v 4a/hr battery to act as a buffer on the electrical system). *"top" as in looking at it installed : '' : . The pin that is turned a different direction than the other two. |

I missed JeepSteve's post because I didn't realize this thread had started another page.

Yes, my Zong is a 2006 (I've got a couple pics of it on another topic... the CDI thread I think)
Well, it's an interesting problem. I installed the new H4 socket/assembly and matched up the wiring--green to green (which is ground), and then the other two. I've tried them both ways and each gives the same result. One beam is weak to almost non-existent, and the other is fine. So, no matter which of the two sets of wires is connected, both yield the same result--only the Lo & Hi beam selection is opposite of course. I took the H4 assembly back out and put the old one back in (the BA20D socket & bulb). Works fine. Both Lo & Hi beams work as they should. So, I'm guessing it's either the H4 bulbs or the H4 socket. The bulbs are by Sylvania and they're 12.8v, not 12. Maybe that makes a difference? What is the voltage output of the H4 Eiko bulbs??? Are they 12 or 12.8? With the H4 Sylvania XtraVision bulb in action the "one" beam I do get is great. It's many times brighter with a much wider field of vision than the standard BA20D. There's no comparison. But of course, if the bulb burns out at night while riding I'm screwed...the only option I have is to run my Baja lights (and one of those doesn't work either--that's yet another fix). I'll keep messin' with it. It has to be something simple. |

I doubt the problem is caused by either the H4 bulb or the H4 socket. I would guess something is wrong with your light switch, or you have a wiring problem somewhere else in the circuit. :roll: I encourage you to read the following thread.

Here, I was out doing some work on mine and snapped you a picture.
![]() It's kinda washed out but the wire colors from left to right are GREEN - WHITE - BLUE. I was wrong above about where the green wire was supposed to be. |

To me it sounds like the ground (-) wire is connected to the 'hot' (positive) terminal of the High beam terminal, and the hot (+) wire to the common ground / negative terminal of the socket / bulb.
Swap those two around and you should have lights on both high and low. That implies that you have 12+ volt inputs at both live and ground on the low beam, which would explain no low beam. If I got my electrical theory from 30++ years ago right... |

You're welcome, Daha. The Zong has an superb headlight reflector.

Incidentally, the H4 bulbs are manufactured much more robustly than the BA20D bulbs.

@Dahamaster
Have you converted other bulbs to led? Can this H4 45w bulb conversion be done without changing other bulbs to led?

Thank you Spud.
![]() But if stator can support 55W/60 H4 bulb than i'll go with that. Your light is always on so you've tested it a lot. ![]()
